I-Volution 20GB iPod Case
If you've purchased an iPod, you no doubt want to protect your investment from unslightly scratches and bumps. But what is the ideal case? I've tried several, but the new I-Volution i-Vod leather semi-rigid case from Vaja Cases is near the top of my list. It's designed for the new 20GB iPod, but worked fine with my original 5GB iPod. Unlike other cases, the iPod slips easily in and out of the case. There's no clamps to fasten, yet the once inside, the iPod is securely protected (it won't fall out). The screen is easily visible through the opening, and the scroll wheel and controls fully accessible. My favorite case prior to this one is Waterfield Design's Superdooper iPod Case: however, one criticism of that case is that the narrow opening for access to the end ports (Firewire, earphone jack, etc.) makes connecting items somewhat difficult. I've often connected a headphone jack only to discover it wasn't pushed in completely because the case blocked part of the jack. The Vaja case eliminates this problem completely by leaving the port area open. That also makes it easier to access the iPod's Lock switch, meaning you'll use it more often. ![]() The only drawback to this design is that nothing protects the iPod screen: it could be scratched. A flip-style covers the screen when closed. Which is better for you depends on how you use and carry your iPod. I carry mine in my pants pocket, where it could be scratched by keys or pocket knife. You can purchase the i-Volution with or without a removable belt clip. The basic model is black-only, but for $89.90 you can choose a customized model with your choice of over two dozen different colors. For $15 more you can have your name imprinted on the back as well. Vaja also makes $45 flip-top style leather cases for the 5-10GB iPods. Summary
