iPod classic - review [updated October 10, 2007]13658

iPod classicNow, we've got a classic iPod. Is it really classic? Well, it's the oldest, and I guess that's point, even if the only resemblance the iPod classic bears with the original is it's basic shape. The new model is a streamlined, robust entry that's easily your best iPod choice if you watch a lot of video or have a large music collection. Is it really a classic, though? No, and it probably won't become so with time. The game incompatibility and TV Out problems, though, maybe become two of Apple's classic blunders.

Review - iPhone12818

The question, of course, is whether the iPhone is worth at least $500 plus $60+ a month. If it were just the phone, I'd say no, no way. But truth be told, I've barely used the phone. I rarely ever will. I have, however, used the web and e-mail a lot. I've shown off photos of my kids with it, and I've watched the 1980 Flash Gordon movie when I've been trapped waiting for an appointment or what have you. I've had my wife check to see who made the Seahawks practice squad while I drove up I-71, and I've checked maps while walking to events in unfamiliar cities. All of this has been surprisingly easy to do...

Review - Mac mini 1.5GHz Intel Core Solo23975

To give this machine a fair review, I have to do so from the point of view of my mother, not me. I didn't run Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Toon Boom Studio on it. I didn't play Quake 4. Instead, I surfed the web. I checked e-mail. I played some CDs, imported some photos and played a few rounds of Burning Monkey Puzzle Lab. The Mac mini performed ably.

Review - iPod nano3738

iPod nanoI sing the praises of the nano! Its small size! Its beauty! Its color screen! Its ability to pick up scratches! Okay! Not that last one!

Review - 12" 1.5GHz G4 PowerBook7766

Apple's 12" 1.5GHz PowerBook is a real treat. If you need a small, powerful laptop with a lot of (peripheral) expandability, and you need it right now and you don't need a ton of screen space, this is the computer for you.

Review - 5G iPod with video3337

Here's a device with the ability to blow up the music video and television industries, and I think that's just fantastic. The pickings are slim at the moment, but as the number of available TV shows and music videos grows, of course I'm going to download them. For the amount of TV I watch, paying to download only what I want would save quite a bit of money over my $60 a month cable bill. But, I won't let this review turn into yet another tirade against the entertainment industry. I'll focus on what matters, here, and what matters is that Apple has released the most useful, most powerful and most glamorous iPod yet.

Mac mini3171

From a price/performance perspective, the Mac mini is an amazing computer; maybe the most amazing computer Apple's ever made. It's like a full-featured demo of a Mac: giving you access to all the features, and maybe leaving you hungrier for more. Picture a tray of minis at a supermarket, with little toothpicks sticking out of them.

20" 2GHz G5 iMac10279

There's an awful lot to love about the new iMacs, but there always has been a lot to love. The trouble is that there's always been a lot to want, to. They've sacrificed power for the sake of aesthetics and usability, and so their life-span has been considerably shorter than that of other cheaper computers (on the PC side, anyway). With the 2GHz 20" iMac, this is no longer the case. I won't say Apple has finally learned that even iMac users want power and longevity from their computers; I'm sure they've always known it. Instead, I'll conclude they've finally found a way to inexpensively deliver that power and longevity in a sleek, head-turning, easily managable unit.

4G iPod4222

It's the little things that make the 4G iPod better than its predecessors. There's the capacity, of course, and the improved battery life, the slim shape...all the obvious things they've improved. But use one of these devices and you'll appreciate some of the less noticeable improvements.

Bandmateloops Rock Libraries for GarageBand4235

The loops that ship with GarageBand are good, but they span such a wide variety of genres and styles that it's hard to put together anything coherent with them. After posting numerous press releases from bandmateloops.com, I turned to them for help. I'm a rock guy, so I gave two of their rock loops collections a try: Bandmates Guitar Player - Electric Guitars and Bandmates Rock Drummer - Rock Drums.
