The thrust the Dynamics Learning series is to not just tell you what various programs can do, but to give you projects that guide you through these capabilities. It's like taking a training seminar, only you're the only one there and you can take your lunch break whenever you want. The first book I've tried out in this series is Dynamic Learning: Photoshop CS3, which is a great place for me to start.

My initial and enduring impression upon perusing Leander Kahney’s “The Cult Of iPod” was that this book is very much like a large Website, with text content intermingled with lots of eclectically relevant graphic material. 

If all you want to do with GarageBand 2 is drag some loops around, no problem. You don't need a manual to show you how to do that. But, if you want more control of those loops, if you want to create your own loops or if you want to bypass loops altogether and lay down some by-God rock and roll licks, then it's time once again to turn to David Pogue, O'Reilly Media and the Missing Manual series.

Adobe GoLive CS2 Tips and Tricks is another in a recent trend to satisfy those who don't want to read a manual but want to know all the "secrets" on how to use a program. This book of tips and tricks was written by the veritable and genial Adobe presenters Adam Pratt and Lynn Grillo, who've both used the program since long before Adobe purchased the company (GoLive) that originally created the web designing program (CyberStudio). These two are a gifted pair who probably know more about this program than you know about your own nose, but who can explain whatever you want to know about the feature in question in a simple, clear, concise and understandable manner.
