An impressive resource tool at your fingertips, but use a fast Mac for the most satisfactory performance

Charles Moore Reviews the steelpad 4D Double-Sided Mouse2156

The original metal steelpad was underwhelming, but I love this new plastic one

Stuffit Deluxe 8.0.12141

If you have downloaded just about anything from the web, you have probably dealt with a compressed document. Aladdin's new version of Stuffit Deluxe 8.0 continues with making a great product greater with a few new features. Regrettably, compression-improvements itself seems to have plateaued.

FontCatalog X2138

When it's up and running, FontCatalog does a decent job of helping you manage, view and print your fonts. The trouble with it is that it's not robust enough to replace FontReserve or Suitcase, but it also doesn't play nicely with those programs. Still, there's a lot to like in here. I have yet to see a program that so easily allows the user to see custom text strings in entire font families.

Wild FX Pro 31700

With computers, opening credits in movies are no longer used simply to introduce the actors, but also to set the entire mood of the movie to come. Just as the computer has made all of this easier on Hollywood, they've made it easier on the hobbyist as well. If Hollywood doesn't have to rely on good stories and decent acting to create their movies, why should you?

Macromedia Contribute 21534

Macromedia has driven the final nail into FrontPage's coffin. Actually, that's not entirely accurate. FrontPage was built in a coffin from which it never really clawed its way out to begin with. But if there's one thing I've learned about devoted Microsoft users, it's that they don't mind working with the undead.

Andromeda PhotoShop Plug-Ins3141

Unlike many PhotoShop plug-in developers, Andromeda writes individual programs that do one and only one thing. Purchase the one's you want, and ignore the ones you don't. The other advantage here is that you are not likely to purchase things you are not likely to use. On the other hand, you are self-restricting yourself from ever exploring other potential creative avenues.

Mystical Tint, Tone and Color2157

In its current state, my leanings towards the Auto FX user interface will never grow beyond tolerance. However, I'm more than happy to tolerate it if the ends justify means. Here, perhaps the first time, they do so with confidence. Getting 38 filters is impressive is enough, but the fact that so many of them are useful borders on amazing.

MonacoEZcolor2 and MonacoOPTIX2733

Coordinating colors between your monitor, scanner, printer and any other device is one of the more challenging aspects digital imagery. This is where Monaco Systems comes in as a color "administrator" for your image systems. Although it does add a few steps on your way to print your images, it works. Set it up, print, and admire. No wasted print paper, ink, time, or angst.

Review: Mask Pro 32421

Photoshop, the noun, is also used as a verb as in "Yeah, I Photoshoped his head onto the carrot...." Making the selection of the item one wishes to place somewhere else has long been one of the arts of Photoshop. Mask Pro provides a new collection tools and techniques for this art. While Mask Pro will not replace the selection/masking capabilities in Photoshop, it will significantly add to one's repertoire of tools.
