CherryOS release delayed… again. •Tech-Industry •Comments •Tell-a-Friend Okay, quick recap: CherryOS claims to be a fast, efficient emulator that allows OS X to be run on PC hardware. It's creator claims that he wrote it himself in a few months. People are skeptical. The creators of PearPC, an Open Source software project trying to accomplish the same thing, get hold of the "beta version" and discover that it contains their code. CherryOS claims that that was the mistake of an employee who was fired. They also stated that a complete, PearPC-free version of CherryOS would be released on November 25th, along with a trial version. Well, guess what? CherryOS has announced that the release has been delayed until next year.
The PearPC news page had this comment: There is not much going on in PearPC land at the moment. But tomorrow the new PPC emulator CherryOS was supposed to be released. Unfortunately, the release date has been pushed back again. The new date is set to "Q1 2005". There was also supposed to be a trial version, so you can try it before you buy. Those who claim that CherryOS simply does not exist will no doubt count this in the "win" column, along with those who suggest that Maui X-Stream (the company "distributing" the software) created the story as a way to stress test their Java video server (which had been used on the website to demonstrate aspects of CherryOS) by directing a lot of traffic to the site. Me, I'm still waiting for my XTreme 1.2 GHz Macintosh to show up. •Tech-Industry •Comments •Tell-a-Friend Article URL: http://www.applelinks.com/index.php/more/2805 Next Article: Shareware Beat - Wednesday, December 1, 2004 Previous Article: Apple misses iTunes Canada deadline
