While the clamshell iBook's styling was nothing if not controversial when was first released almost nine years ago, it was arguably Apple's most striking laptop computer design ever, although MacBook Air fans might take issue with that assertion. With its bright, two-tone color schemes and radically rounded contours, the clamshell might not have been everyone's cup of tea aesthetically, but it certainly attracted attention and made a statement, and I think it's worn rather well, still looking fresh and interesting in the vast ocean of laptop sameness. I'm personally especially partial to the Key Lime model, introduced at Macworld Expo Paris in September, 2000, and which was sold only through the online Apple Store, which also makes it one of the rarest of the clamshell line. Incidentally laptop luggage maker MacCase thinks so much of the clamshell iBook's looks that the company is offering an updated version of its original 1999 clamshell case design with the launch of the 2008 Classic Case. for MacBook.
