For those of you in a dilemma over whether you should get the iPhone or the iTouch the following review by CNET might answer that question.
“Barely three months after the launch of the iPhone, Apple debuted its iPod Touch. Though their similar designs may lead you to think that the Touch is just an iPhone without the phone, in reality they are two distinct devices. Variations in style, features, and media performance become readily apparent to those that dig a little deeper. That’s why CNET pitted these two devices against each other to see which one is the superior multimedia player. Of course, we can’t compare call quality, so that will be left out of the tussle, but certainly we can compare almost everything else.
Let’s have a clean fight, fellas. Ding, ding!”

A new Apple Knowledge Base article says:
After updating an iPod classic or an iPod nano (3rd generation) to iPod software 1.0.2, the device may continuously reboot after resyncing iTunes music library. If this occurs, the iPod will not be recognized or seen in iTunes.

Solution
To resolve this issue, place the device in Disk Mode and restore it. See this document for steps to put the iPod into Disk Mode. If you need assistance restoring the iPod, see this document.
To prevent this issue from recurring, recreate the iTunes music library prior to re-syncing the iPod. See "How to re-create your iTunes Library" for information.
