Together 2.0.2 (Formerly K.I.T.) Database/Organizer for Mac OS X Leopard

Reinvented Software announces the release of Together 2.0 for Mac OS X Leopard. Together, formerly known as KIT (Keep It Together), is a file organization application for storing, previewing, editing and searching all kinds of files. Its many new features include a new tag browser, support for folders, tabbed editing, Quick Look previews and its library can be accessed for browsing, searching and dragging from any application with the new Shelf.

Redeveloped for Leopard from the group up, Together 2.0 brings improvements to every area of the application. Hierarchical folders, mirrored in the Finder, can now be created in Together and work alongside its groups, loose collections of files that work like iTunes-playlists. In addition to managing tags, the new tag browser automatically creates special tags from the labels, ratings, groups and folders already in Together's library. The Shelf, a tab that appears on the side of the screen, can be used as a convenient target for drag operations, browsing and searching Together's library and for making quick notes from within any application.

Together can preview and edit many different file formats, include text documents, PDF files, images, movies, web archives and bookmarks, and will use Quick Look to generate previews for almost any other kind of document, meaning everything from mail messages to iWork documents can now be previewed in Together. The new Portrait preview makes the most of widescreen monitors and with tabbed editing, documents are collected together in tabs in the main window.

Searching for files in Together is now improved with Spotlight integration and a new search bar that allows the search to be as broad as everything in the entire library or narrow as a specific group and field. Its smart groups also benefit from Spotlight content searching and support for relative dates such as "today" or "in the last 1 month". Together can also encrypt documents, imports files in the background to ensure the library is always available and introduces support for multiple libraries.

In addition to these new features, version 2.0 includes countless other enhancements and improved performance with large libraries.

New in version 2.0.2:

  • Performance improvements for switching between groups, sorting the item list, importing and searching for libraries with thousands of items.

  • When activating the Shelf using hot keys, Together is now made the active application, so the library can be browsed using the keyboard and text can be entered into the Quick Note area.

  • Added a workaround to an issue that prevented Entourage emails from being dragged to Together.

  • Added validation to prevent folders that enclose the library folder from being imported.

  • Improved the small-size Labels toolbar icon.

  • Smart group rules for Tags that use the "contains" or "does more...

Together requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later, and is available from the Reinvented Software web site as a 15-day trial that can be unlocked upon purchase.

A full license costs $39 and upgrades from KIT 1.x are $14.95. Anyone who purchased a licensing in the three months preceding this version's release is entitled to a free upgrade. Education and bulk discounts are also available.
