992 Are you not a fan of the OS X Finder? Xfolders is a new freeware file manager for Mac OS X Tiger that supplements the Finder.

Xfolders offers keyboard control ala Norton Commander:

: Switch between the file lists.
Up and down keys: Navigate in file lists.
Left and right keys: Navigate in path navigators.
: Goto previous folder.
: Deselect all.
: Enter the selected folder or run the app for the selected file.
: Select the first entry.
: Select the last entry.
: Scroll the file list one page up.
: Scroll the file list one page down.
: Copy the selected items.
: Move the selected items.
: Create new folder.
: Move the selected items to trash.
: Rename the selected item.
: Terminates the app.

Path navigators context menu (click with right mouse button or ctrl-mouse on the path navigator):

Home folder: Change to your home folder
Path from right/left: Opens the path from left/right side
Volumes: Shows all mounted volumes
Other folder: Change to a folder that you input manually

Note: Expose in Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) uses the F9, F10 and F11 keys by default. You will need to change this (for example to F11, F12 and F13) in the system preferences, or deactivate the keyboard control for ExposÊ

Some users may find this sort of interface more intuitive than the Finder, but personally, I still get along better with the Finder's spatial metaphor than with column views when moving stuff around.

I also found the program's response very slow on my 700 MHz G3 iBook, although this would presumably be less noticable on a faster Mac.

There also seems to be a bug that makes the program unresponsive to a mouse click in its interface window when returnin from certain othewr applications (Toyviewer being one).

All erasing processes in Xfolders are not absolute, i.e. all deleted files or folders move first into the trash. If you empty the trash, the data are really deleted
