Sleep Display Widget 1.0.1

If you have a beautiful new iMac, you know how nice and bright the screen is. Thing is...sometimes a bright screen isn't what you're going for. Enter this widget. It allows you to IMMEDIATELY sleep just your display so that you can continue running your background jobs. It doesn't permanently affect your energy settings, so when you start working again, your monitor will not sleep immediately. It's a simple widget, but it solves an annoying problem.

New in version 1.0.1:
• Energy setting changes only made to current profile (AC or battery) not both.
• New and improved icon.
• This version may work for people who experienced the monitor going off then coming right back on. As you can imagine, there's only so many setups I can test on my own. But, I hope this version works for everyone.
• Ability to define time until display sleeps
• New widget icon

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

Amnesty Widget Browser 1.3.1

Widgets gone wild

Enjoy the convenience of running Dashboard widgets directly on your desktop, with the management features and control settings you need to get the most out of your widgets.

Widgets loaded in Amnesty Widget Browser run completely outside of the Dashboard environment, maintain their own preferences and feature expanded capabilities that go far beyond what you can do in Dashboard.

Key Features
• Window level (desktop / standard / floating)
• Opacity, scaling and rotation
• Organize widgets into folders
• Set up multiple widget workspaces
• Run widgets on Panther (10.3.9)

Widgets can also be arranged into multiple virtual workspaces that can be called up—by menu or hot key—to the screen at any time.

This "independence" from Dashboard means Panther users can—for the first time—get in on Apple's widget experience, using Amnesty Widget Browser to run many third-party Dashboard widgets (a library of sample widgets is bundled with every copy).

New in version 1.3.1:
Fixes immovable widget issue that occurs after Safari 3.0b installation: widgets will not respond to mouse-down-and-drag for widget repositioning.

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later

System Support:

Wikipedia Widget 0.9.2

A Dashboard widget for browsing the free, user-created encyclopedia, Wikipedia. Search for articles and view from the Dashboard, complete with pictures and links.

Version 0.9.2 is now available. It now works with Safari 3 Beta installed, but Safari 3 users will have to suffer without search history for now. All other users will be unaffected. I apologize for the paltry update – more is in store, but I'm pressed for time while school is in session.

Features:
• Compatible with any language wikipedia, just enter the 2 (sometimes 3 or more) letter code on the back. Defaults to English.
• External links open in your preferred browser.
• Click the 'wikipedia' button to the left of the search field to open the current article or search term in Safari.
• The little '?' button to the left of the search field fetches a random article.
• Back and forward buttons with page caching.

Known bugs:
• External links that include most unicode characters can't be sent to your preferred browser.

ToDo:
• Make it compatible with other MediaWiki sites
• Set a time-out on page-grabbing.
• Create a better looking collapsed state.
• Add up and down scroll buttons at the bottom of the scroll bar.
• Come up with a way to open the same article in another language, like the side menu of Wikipedia.org's interface.
• Display a contextual menu when a link is right-clicked.
• The current "temporary" user interface has lasted much longer than I had planned. This needs to be beautified.
• Clean up and comment the code, to simplify the lives of those borrowing code for their own projects.
• Fancify this page a bit, but nothing extravagant.
• Put out a release significant enough to be called ONE POINT OHH. One of these days it'll happen, I promise.

New in version 0.9.2:
• Compatible with Safari 3 Beta
• Korean localization courtesy of Dong-sung Kim

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

Midnight - 1.0.1 Widget To Help Your Mac Get A Good Night's Sleep

When it's time to leave your Mac for a while, you want a nice quick way of putting it to sleep and a little bit of flexibility in how you do it.

Introducing Midnight, a Dashboard widget designed to help you put your Mac to sleep in the way you want and at double speed.

Midnight can either put your Mac into its standard sleep mode or into hibernation mode (also referred to as 'safe sleep' or 'deep sleep'). Standard sleep is where your Mac reduces its power consumption to a minimum by stopping its processor but maintaining the supply of power to (and thus maintaining the current contents of) the RAM. Hibernation is different in that no power is used at all. In order to do this your Mac will copy its current RAM contents onto its hard disk. It needs to do this so that it can remove power from the RAM and keep a copy of its contents for when you want to wake your Mac up later.

You might not have heard of hibernation before. Apple calls it 'safe sleep'. Its purpose is to ensure that data stored in RAM is not lost if there is a loss of power during normal sleep mode. Apple only officially supports safe sleep on the PowerBook G4 (Double-Layer SD) together with all of the new Intel books and desktops and you won't find a setting to turn it on or off in System Preferences on any of these Macs.

In addition to choosing a particular sleep mode you can choose whether your Mac should switch to the log-in screen before going to sleep.

"Hold on a minute," I hear you scream. "I'm a standard user not an administrator. I'm not usually allowed to play around with this kind of stuff!!" It's true, only an administrator can turn safe sleep on or off permanently, but you don't need to change the safe sleep settings permanently. You only need to change them temporarily when you have asked Midnight to hibernate and you want them to go back to standard when your Mac wakes up. Fortunately Midnight is a clever little fella and can handle this for you without ever needing to know your administrator's password.

New in version 1.0.1:
• Some people noticed high CPU usage while using Midnight. I believe this to have been a problem with some incorporated Apple code. Midnight has been changed to use code resident on your Mac, so hopefully using Mac OS X 10.4.9 with Midnight 1.0.1 will solve this problem.
• Midnight has been localized for: English, Japanese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Korean, Chinese (both traditional and simplified) and Russian. The layout of the widget has changed slightly to better accommodate these various languages.

System requirements:
• Mac OS X 10.4.3 or higher

Live GPS Tracking Widget 1.0

Magnalox will soon release a final version of a dashboard widget for OS X, Apple's operating system.

It enables Mac users to follow live tracks without the necessity of opening a web-browser, but displays the updated track on a handy little application, draggable on the desktop.

New: Integrate Live Tracking in external web pages or blogs

Magnalox members can now integrate live tracking maps in their personal webpages or blogs.
Live Tracking maps are updated with the latest positions in near-real time.

The software used on the mobile device is ›loxtrax.

Positions are usually generated by a GPS device and transfered to the magnalox server by mobile phones, PDAs or integrated devices.

The mobile device needs sporadic internet access to transfer the positions, which are buffered meanwhile.

The position update interval is limited only by the transmission costs and bandwidth available. To reduce the server load and bandwidth, magnalox shortest update interval is currently artificially limited to 30 seconds.

All kinds of communication networks or technology (GSM, UMTS, WiFi, satellites, GPRS, etc.) can be used for data transmission, magnalox' coverage is global.

No specialised hardware is required, even some street navigation devices can be re-used. One (of many) suitable mobile devices is the »Mitac Mio A701 mobile phone, having a GPS, a PDA and a phone integrated into a pocket-sized, multi purpose device. It provides mobile internet access, email access, car navigation, a music player, a built-in camera and more features along with a SD-card slot for gigabytes of mobile storage. More and more similar devices are entering the market currently.

The HTML-code required to embed this map into a blog or other webpages like done above is:
<iframe style="display:inline; float:left; margin:1.5em; border:1px dotted #000000" src = "http://onltr.magnalox.net/no.php?lid=14455&DisplayWidth=320&MapHeight=250" width = "320" height = "440" frameborder = "0"> Your browser should support iframes </iframe>
Just replace the 14455 with the ID of your magnalog and that's it. The "regular" version of this live tracking map can be found ›here, which is also done via an iframe.

The service is free for personal usage. More technical information is available to magnalox members after ›log-in. Commercial live tracking applications, hosted on dedicated servers and databases are available on demand.

New: Live Tracking on Google Maps and on Google Earth

Magnalox now supports tracks live displayed in realtime on Google Maps or on Google Earth.

Tracked persons or items need a PDA or a smartphone, which transfers the current position to magnalox in adjustable intervals.
The magnalox server transforms the position data into webpages for ordinary browsers or .kmz files which can be displayed with Goggle Earth.
The live tracks can be annotated with texts, photos, links etc using magnalox' web-interface.
Data transmission is inexpensive, because GPRS can be used where available and the amount of data transmitted is low. All kinds of mobile internet access devices like satphones, WLAN, UMTS etc can be used as well.

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

System Support:
PPC/Intel

Free
