Dash Monitors 1.3u: Monitoring for your Dashboard

Dash Monitors is a Widget that runs under Mac OS X Tiger's new Dashboard functionality. Dash Monitors displays a graphic summary of your system resource usage including:

• CPU usage. (Dual Processor Compatible)
• Memory usage including Wired, Active, Inactive, and Free memory.
• Network bandwidth being used.
• Disk read and write speed.

Dash Monitors is great for users who would like to run a system monitor but do not want to sacrifice any screen real-estate while working.

Monitor Modes

There are 3 modes for each of the monitors: text, simple, and graphical. The text view mode shows a very simple text view of the resources being used and is beneficial because it takes very few system resources to generate the statistics. The simple view mode is the original view from Dash Monitors 1.0, and includes simple bar charts to show statistics in a graphical way without th eye candy. The graphical view mode, while taking more CPU resources to draw all the monitors, displays a fully imaged graphical interface to what is happening on the system. Text summaries are provided with the monitors in simple and graphical mode to provide the exact data along with the graphical approximations.

Open Source

Dash Monitors takes advantage of MTK for all of the statistics it gathers. MTK is open source and can be downloaded from the Gaucho Software Open Source pages. Look for more features in Dash Monitors as MTK is more fully developed.

Download and try Dash Monitors free for 30 days. After you find you can't live without it, purchase Dash Monitors for the low price of $9.95. Gaucho Software's web store is managed by eSellerate, and offers secure transactions using SSL encryption. If you are dissatisfied with Dash Monitors for any reason within 30 days of purchasing it, simply email requesting a return and we will refund your purchase.

New in version 1.3u:
• Support for Intel Macs.

New in version 1.3:
• Converted Graphic CPU display into an image set which will speed things up from using a canvas.
• Made sections of the code more robust (canvas drawing in particular).
• Fixed a bug when registering the widget while still in the trial period.
• Fixed a bug that would cause Dash Monitors to crash after logout/login or a reboot.
• Added robustness to the interface between Dash Monitors and MTK.
• Added a daemon mode to MTK, so if Dash Monitors unexpectedly quits, MTK will die along with it.
• Added support to MTK for more complex datasets, will be used for future monitors.

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

System support:
PPC/Intel

MailWidget 1.5

MailWidget checks your email account every time Dashboard is activated — without having Apple Mail running all the time. So far there is nothing special but, unlike other widgets, MailWidget knows which email was received by Apple Mail. Thats especially helpful for those who dont delete their old mail from the mail server immediately in order to be able to read their last mail on travels via webmail.

Other widgets might say something like "there are 88 messages on the mail server" but only MailWidget will tell if there are new emails that hadnt already been received by Apple Mail.

New in version 1.5:
• Improved IMAP server checking (thanks to Daniel Brown)
• MailWidget no longer spams the console.log when it has no connection to the server
• And a few minor changes

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.4 or later,
Apple Mail 2 or later.

System support:
PPC/Intel

Free

WordGuise 3.6.0 Universal

WordGuise is a REALbasic plugin that defines a text editor widget for windows and macintosh. It is also an RTF control, supporting most if not all of the gadgets an RTF document provides and it allows embedding of picture objects in the text. The WordGuise widget also provides support for Waste documents, because it sits on top of the well known Waste library. On windows wordguise exploits RichEdit and implements interfaces allowing picture embedding.

The WordGuise class inherits from a WordGuiseContainer control. The plugin allows creation of a WordGuise instance in code (on-the-fly), in addition to a default RB behavior, i.e., WordGuise is a typical control. An instance can be created by dragging the WordGuiseContainer on the window and then setting the super to WordGuise. Embedding can be done in a window, a panel or a RectControl of your choice. WordGuise can also be modified to act as a StaticText field, while you can set it to have focus, enable drag and drop or select its caption. WordGuise on the Mac can be extended to WordGuiseEx. This will allow usage of the new Waste 3.0 engine in MacOSX/Mach-O. When using WordGuiseEx, make sure to remove WordGuise plugin from the Plugins folder at the root of the REALbasic application, and vice versa, when using

WordGuise do not put WordGuiseEx in the Plugins folder. WordGuiseEx has a different dylib (Mach-O) but otherwise is identical to WordGuise when it comes to MacOS PEF (OSX,classic) and Windows. Note that the WordGuise package comes with sample projects, while the WordGuiseEx package only contains the plugin. Further, if you purchase WordGuiseEx, you will need a license for WordGuise (which also includes all other plugins listed on this site) as well.

New in version 3.6:
• [fix]: when OSX 10.4.9 was introduced the canvas exhibited keydown events fired twice. It appears that one of the fixes RS introduced was the addition of a keydown event to every REALcontrol that is out there. However we map the REALcontrol events to our subclass WordGuise (in an identical way you would do within RB). We define and implement a KeyDown event for WordGuise for ages, but since WordGuise inherits from REALcontrol (WordGuiseContainer), WordGuise suddenly had to cope with two KeyDown events, because we did not map a keydown from the inherited REALcontrol. The presence of WordGuise(Ex) in the plugins folder was enough to disallow any compilation of a project, including the empty project. This version of WordGuise maps the keydown of the REALcontrol, and is backwards compatible.

System requirements:
REALbasic 5.5 or later.

System support:
PPC/Intel

Virtual Dashboard 1.3

With the release of Apple Macintosh OS X10.4, Apple released the Dashboard. The Dashboard allows you to use mini applications called widgets. These widgets allow you to see information such as the date and time, or the running value of stocks that the user can setup. They also can be games or just about anything that developers can come up with. The Dashboard makes it very handy to easily access these widgets and the type of data or information that the user wants to look at. There are literally thousands of these widgets that have been developed and can be downloaded from various sites. The problem with the Dashboard is that the number of widgets that can viewed on the screen at one time is limited to the amount of viewable screen space that the user has. To solve this, Virtual Dashboard was created. With Virtual Dashboard, users can create widget sets that can be switched in and out either through a menu or keyboard shortcuts. This allows users to create different sets and add or remove the widgets that they want to see. Virtual Dashboard allows the user to create as many sets as they desire. Users could literally have access to hundreds, if not thousands of widgets right at their fingertips

New in version 1.3:

Bugs Fixed:
• Fixed bug that new items added to a set, and placed on screen, then set edited again, Dashboard items would not keep there correct position.

New Feature:
• Added new feature to show Dashboard items on the desktop while the Dashboard is not active.
• Can switch Dashboard Items to show on Desktop with user defined Key Combination

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

System support:
PPC/Intel

Virtual Dashboard is a shareware application. You are free to use it as much as you like for 30 days from its first run. After that, you are asked to either purchase it or remove it from your computer. The cost of Virtual Dashboard is only USD 10.00, and a license can be purchased through Kagi at the Virtual Dashboard order page. After 30 days, the application will be crippled and the user will only be allowed to use the first two sets created. No new sets may be created.
