“White spot” repair program announced for some 15” P’books

598 Apple has announced a Repair Extension Program for the owners of some 15" Powerbooks who are experiencing white spots on their screens. The computers affected by this program are those with serial numbers between V7334xxxxxx to V7345xxxxxx and also QT331xxxxxx to QT339xxxxxx. Owners of these Powerbooks who have already paid for the repair will be reimbursed, according to Apple, and should contact an Apple Center as soon as possible.

From the FAQ:

A limited number of 15-inch PowerBook G4 computers exhibit a display issue which may cause faint white spots to appear on the screen over time. The 15-inch PowerBook G4 Repair Extension Program is a worldwide program covering replacement of LCDs that exhibit these white spots.

These computers were manufactured from July 2003 through November 2003. PowerBooks with the serial numbers listed above may be referred to as:

* PowerBook G4 15-inch Aluminum (1GHz G4 or 1.25GHz G4)
* PowerBook G4 Titanium (867MHz G4 or 1GHz G4)

Owners of these computers can test their screens to see if they're affected by the problem. The instructions (detailed in the link) simply involve setting your desktop to a solid grey.
