Unsanity Releases Raft Of Leopard-Supporting Haxie Betas - OS X Odyssey 913 [UPDATED]

4277 This is a huge development for those of us who have been waiting impatiently for restoration of WindowShade X support in Leopard. As a total windowshading junkie, I've found it a very long three months, although Leopard's Spaces feature has helped mitigate the pain somewhat. However, aside from email throughput that works properly, the thing I have missed most after upgrading to OS 10.5 from OS 10.4 is windowshading.

Anyway, yesterday, Unsanity Software released a new beta 2.5 version of their APE enabler software, which was the main holdup with Leopard support, along with betas of WindowShade X and several of their other haxie add-ons.

I downloaded the new WindowShade X beta last evening, but haven't tried it yet. Will do so and report later.

[UPDATE] I have now installed WindowShade X 4.2b1 on OS X 10.5.2 and, what can I say?.... It works just fine. Thank you Unsanity folks! CM]

In the meantime, as Unsanity says, "the standard goldfish disclaimer applies"

"Remember, these are betas. They have not had the test coverage released software has. But we do have confidence they won't completely make your computer explode. Even so, please open each product's preference pane and make sure automatic updates are checked Daily. Just in case something bad happens, so it'll be no more than a day before you get notified of the update.

These betas also have some significant user interface issues that will be resolved by the time their final release approaches.

The releases are:

APE 2.5 (and SDK)

Smart Crash Reports 1.5b2

FontCard 1.5.1b1

Menu Master 1.4.3b1

Silk 2.1.4b1

FruitMenu 3.7b1

WindowShade X 4.2b1

All of these betas include SCR 1.5b2 and APE 2.5b1, so they do not have to be downloaded separately. APE 2.5b1 may also have some fixes for APE not enhancing some applications on Mac OS X 10.4.x in some cases.
