TinkerTool System is very different from other maintenance applications because it never uses any scripts and is fully integrated into the security architecture of Mac OS X. For example, it never asks for your password itself but lets Mac OS X do this when necessary, always verifying whether an operation you have selected is allowed to be performed with your current user credentials or not.
Together with its sister program "TinkerTool" which is available at no charge, TinkerTool System is a perfect substitute for the following types of maintenance applications:

- This is a maintenance update which optimizes specific features, especially for use with Mac OS X Leopard. The update is recommended for all users of Mac OS X 10.5 or later.
- The function to remove language packages now additionally supports up-to-date applications which are using language markers in compliance with the new standards ISO 631-2 and RFC 3066bis.
- It is now possible to remove English language support for applications that have not been designed with English as their primary language (not for Mac OS X 10.3 Panther).
- Many new log files of Mac OS X Leopard can now be monitored via the Info pane of the application.
- Corrected a problem where Portuguese for Portugal could not be selected to become the startup language for Mac OS X 10.5.
- The feature to mute the startup chime now additionally supports damaged Leopard installations which don't perform correct shutdown sequences.
- The feature to clean the online cache for the directory services client has been reenabled for Leopard installations.
- It is now possible to delete files and the original permission settings of operating system components when the user explicitly states to take that risk.
- The scan process when searching files for cleanup tasks has been accelerated considerably. It is now feasible to scan entire system drives with several 100,000 files.

TinkerTool System is fully compliant with Apple's security guidelines for Mac OS X. It does not need an installer and does not require special system packages to be installed. To launch the tool, no administrator password is needed.
The features marked with an asterisk (*) are available without any restrictions even if TinkerTool System runs in demo mode.

You can download the application TinkerTool System for free. This allows you to evaluate the software to see if it suits your needs. There are two different modes of operation to test the application:
In demo mode, only the features Reset the permission settings of Mac OS X system files and Change the base system language effective during startup and login are operational. All other features are blocked.
You can also switch the application to evaluation mode. In this mode, all features of the software are fully functional. This allows you to thoroughly test the application before purchasing a registration key. It will launch five times per computer in evaluation mode before it falls back to demo mode. Evaluation mode cannot be transferred between different operating systems running on the same computer.
