Brian Ray, one of today's top guitarists, who has toured worldwide with Paul McCartney since 2002 and was Etta James' musical director and guitarist for more than a decade, has transformed the Smokey Robinson classic "The Tears Of A Clown" into an edgy, electric, rock 'n' roll anthem. The track will be released by UMe Digital exclusively through the iTunes Music Store on November 8, 2005.
Not only has the song--#1 in 1970 on both the R&B and pop charts for Smokey Robinson and The Miracles--long been a staple of Ray's solo live gigs but the singer-guitarist-songwriter-producer comes by the Robinson association naturally. He co-wrote Smokey's 1987 smash hit "One Heartbeat" (pop Top 10) which is nearing 3,000,000 airplays and became the title of Robinson's gold album.
Besides his appearances with James and McCartney on stage (including two Super Bowls), TV and DVD, Ray has contributed to albums by Shakira, The Bangles, and Adam Cohen, and collaborated with the likes of Peter Frampton and Rita Coolidge. UMe Digital will issue his debut solo album, Mondo Magneto, in the upcoming months.
