A logical transitional choice for the (mostly) desktop warrior?

The 17-Incher - How About Exiting PowerPC In Style? New on MacOpinion

781 In this week's The Road Warrior on MacOpinion. Charles W. Moore says:

"So right now I'm kind of leaning toward getting that last Power PC 'Book, and the 12-inch and 15-inch PowerBooks have been at the top of my speculative shortlist. But should I also consider a 17-incher to finish out the PPC era in style?

"The 17-inch PowerBook could in many respects be a logical choice for someone like myself who uses laptops in desktop substitute mode most of the time. I love the easy-hefting portability of my little 12-inch iBook, but it's spent most of its life perched on a laptop stand, tethered to an array of hard-wired input device and network hookups. A nice, big, 17-inch display would make a lot of sense for that sort of use.

"Also, apparently the 17-inch PowerBook has been admirably reliable, with no recalls or service extension policies needed. If I've fielded any reports of problems with 17-inchers or the past three years, I can't recall, but there haven't been many, and I've never heard any 17-inch PowerBook horror stories. Plus, having a king-of- the-hill PowerBook (which is what my beloved Pismo was in its day), even a not quite up-to-date one, is just plain cool."
