TextExpander 3.1 Adds New Hotkeys for Search and Activation

4380 SmileOnMyMac has released TextExpander 3.1, an update to its customizable typing shortcut tool for Mac OS X. With TextExpander, users can define abbreviations for frequently-used text strings and images, also known as snippets. When an abbreviation is typed, it expands automatically to the full snippet.

TextExpander 3.1 adds hotkeys to activate TextExpander and to search snippets. The TextExpander icon can now be hidden in both the Dock and the menu bar. Search has been improved with highlighting of matched text and inclusion of snippet label text in the search. Other improvements and bug fixes have been made.

The price is $34.95. A Family Pack license is available for $44.95, which covers up to five computers in one household. Upgrades from earlier versions of TextExpander are $15.00, and free to users who purchased after November 1, 2009. Mac OS X 10.6 or later is required.

- Position the cursor wherever you want in your expanded snippet; use fill-ins for snippets with multiple blank fields for variable content
- For programmers, make editor-independent code templates; invoke AppleScripts and shell scripts
- Available in English, German, French, Japanese and Italian

More iPhone & iPad apps Integrate TextExpander touch; Updated SDK Now Available

TextExpander touch, the iPhone version of SmileOnMyMac's customizable typing shortcut tool, is now integrated in 29 iPhone and iPod apps. Users of these apps can expand their TextExpander snippets while typing within these apps.
