And that's what you should repeat to yourself as you buy it. Trust me, it helps.
First off, they kick off their Gearotica section by giving the new iPod a page to itself (in the magazine):
The fourth-generation iPod is the best and most affordable version yet. Both the 20 GB and 40 GB versions can play 12 hours of music on one charge—that’s four more hours than on previous models. Borrowed from the iPod Mini’s design, the play, menu, forward and back buttons are on the click wheel. The popular shuffle-play option is in the main menu, and now you can delete songs from your On-the-Go playlist and save your mix when you get back to your Mac or PC.
Airport Express also gets a plug:
Get WiFi’d at home or on the road with this truly portable router—simply plug it into the wall, plug in the Ethernet cable from your high-speed connector and voilà ! The AC jack is built right into this small (3.7" x 3.0" x 1.1"), simple-looking thing, so there’s no need for a separate power cord, and a USB jack makes it possible to hook up an auxiliary printer.
But then, everyone loves the iPod and Airport Express. What's really surprising is the affection they heap on the 12" Powerbook as part of their laptop round-up:
If you're familiar with Macs or are considering taking a bite out of an Apple for the first time, then go for it. If you kick in another grand, you can make the jump to the 17-inch monitor, but we were impressed with the 12-inch. It's easier to carry around and it does everything we need. Yeeehaaaw!
The full Powerbook review is online, and I highly recommed reading it, if only for comments like "We weren't able to play certain games or access certain Web sites because the Man is always trying to hold the Macintosh down."
Also, if you pick up the magazine itself, you can read the new "Ask the Tech Chick" column with Cat Schwartz, who recently got a 15" Powerbook herself.
Bill's been using Macs since the late 80s. When he's not making smartass remarks to amuse Kirk Hiner, he enjoys fighting for the user.
