Sky Captain started life on a home Mac

428
Here's hope for everyone with a copy of Mac and a dream: film critic Roger Ebert has devoted an article to the story behind the creaton of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a new film starring Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Angelina Jolie.

So this guy named Kerry Conran goes into his garage and sits down at his Macintosh and creates six minutes of images to show what he's thinking about, and the next thing you know he's directing a movie starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and Angelina Jolie.

The article goes on to detail why name stars chose to work with a first-time writer-director, on a science fiction movie where they had to work entirely in front of blue screens, not seeing the robots and destruction to which they were reacting.

Applelinks has previously linked to a New York Times article on Conran and his work with a Mac (the Times article is now in the pay archive).

Ebert closes, however, by wrecking one of the better Mac-related rumors of the year:

I have one more question, I said to Paltrow. You have a new baby girl named Apple. Any relationship to the fact that "Sky Captain" started life on a Macintosh?

"That would make a good story," she said, "but her daddy [Coldplay rocker Chris Martin] picked the name. He just liked it."

Silly Ebert; everyone knows they named her Apple because of the iPod.
