Impression 2.61 Backup Software [OS 10.2 up]
Impression is a straightforward, reliable backup application that can back up directories to (and restore them from) multiple optical discs (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW) or disk images on any mounted hard drive (i.e. - iPod, FireWire drive, Network server, etc.). It offers incremental/differential backup options, bookmark based backup management, compressed/encrypted disk image options and MD5 checksum validation for files to guarantee their integrity and your peace of mind.
The following list offers a general overview of Impression's features:
Full, incremental and differential backups.
Back up files and folders to restorable, hfspax-based archives ('imps') or to plain, Finder-readable file archives.
Back up to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW and disk images on any mounted hard disk (i.e. - iPod, FireWire drive, network server, etc.)
Multi-session disc burning offers 'write until full' capabilities for supported optical disc formats to reduce disc waste when running multiple small or incremental backups.
Encrypt disk images with AES-128 disk encryption and keep your passwords stored safely in the OS X Keychain.
Compress disk images for local archive storage.
MD5 file checksum validation to ensure restoration accuracy.
Segment large files between two optical discs.
'Root' user runtime authority to avoid permissions issues.
Powerful grep-based regex filename pattern exclusion system.
Bookmarked session backup management system.
Preflight system to verify, check validity and estimate backup routines.
Preservation of all Macintosh HFS/HFS+ file meta-data.
The ability to back up hidden and system files.
CD-RW/DVD-RW disc erasing utility.
Full, detailed logging of all application actions.
Restore files from 'imps' archives (hfspax-based) back in place, or to a location of your choosing.
Choose to overwrite or leave existing files in place during restoration.
Restore UNIX files with original permissions.
Provide you with a streamlined, beautiful UI to accomplish these tasks.
Impression is being developed as an absolutely reliable, open-standards solution to back up/archive personal files to optical discs and locally-mounted media. It uses the 'hfspax' archiving tool, which offers a reliable method for preserving all the facets and attributes of a complex Mac-based file. In addition, Impression offers the option to copy files to the destination media (using 'ditto') for archiving purposes. Large files are automatically segmented to span multiple discs with no need for operator input, save swapping CDs/DVDs when requested.
Both propellerheads and infrequent computer users should find that this application addresses their needs for a reliable, reasonably priced, open-standard personal backup solution. We all need to back up our data to keep it safe, and a single ~650MB CD is proving too limited to hold the multitude of files that we generate from our various digital input sources (video, music, photo, etc.)
New in this version:
All reported, reproducible bugs have been fixed for this release.
System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2.x or 10.3.x
BSD subsystem (part of a default OS X install)
iTunes/Disc Burner-supported CD-R/W or DVD-R drive (if archiving to CD/DVD)
Free space on a operator-definable scratch drive, estimated at runtime based on backup size
Impression is $25.00 shareware

Text Bucket 1.1 Persistent Clipboard To Manage Frequently Used Text [OS 10.2 up]
With a quick hotkey combination, the text bucket pops up giving you one key access to frequently used text. Copy your text to the clipboard, bring up the bucket, and hit the slot number you want to store it in. Hit the number of a taken slot and the window closes, while the text automatically appears on the clipboard, ready to be pasted.
Just press your hotkey combo (command-option-control-T by default, but user configurable) to bring up the window.
Press a number slot (or any key for the infinite slot!) to paste whatever text is on the clipboard into the slot. It then remains in Text Bucket until you delete it (by pressing the little "-" button next to the slot). When you want to recall a snippet, again simply press the number of the slot you need and the text will go to the clipboard, the window will close, and you're back where you are to use the text. Easy as pie.
New in this version:
You can add macros to your slots. There are two types, clipboard and macro:
C#CLIPBOARD#If you insert the literal string C#CLIPBOARD# into your slot, it will be replaced with the current clipboard value. For example, if your slot contains "This is my C#CLIPBOARD#", and the clipboard contains "value", then you would end up pasting "This is my value".
M#MACRO#This is more exciting. If your slot contains the phrase M#(letters), that's interpreted as a macro. When a macro slot is activated, you are presented with a new window allowing you to fill in the values of the macro slots.
System requirements:
Mac OS 10.2 or higher

X-MasTree 1.2 Christmas Tree On Your Desktop [OS 10.2 up]
X-MasTree is a small (or medium, or large) floating Christmas tree for your desktop. Since YourHead software, maker of Christi's Tree, seems to have dropped off the face of the earth.
Double click the icon to launch. There are many options, including which color lights to display, lighting modes (static, blinking or fading), a few ornaments, and a badge displaying days left until Christmas. WARNING: setting the lighting mode to "fade" will beat the living snot out of your CPU.
If you are familiar with browsing application bundles, you can add your own custom ornaments to X-MasTree. Simply create a transparent image 200 x 275 pixels and draw your custom ornaments on that. Make sure to save the file as a TIFF image with transparency turned on and LZW compressed. The file name must be either "CustomTop.tif" or "CustomBottom.tif", or both. "CustomTop" images are drawn above all other ornaments and lights, and "CutomBottom" images are below all other ornaments and lights. Now place the image file in the "Resources" folder of the X-MasTree application bundle. Note: it may help to use one of the tree images (Tree0.tiff) from the resource bundle as a guide for placing your ornaments around the tree.
If you want to hide the custom ornaments but don't want to remove them from the bundle, open up the terminal and type in:
defaults write com.stimpsoft.xmastree _drawCustomObjects -integer 0
and to turn them back on:
defaults write com.stimpsoft.xmastree _drawCustomObjects -integer 1
New in this version:
Reduced CPU usage.
Images optimized for smaller file size.
New in version 1.1:
Colored Trees! Woo-boy.
Decided to go for broke and use high quality images. It increased the file size, but hey, it's Christmas.
New lights. You can still use the old style if you want, however
Much needed popcorn strands option added.
Purple ornaments added. Dunno why they weren't in there in the first place.
If no lights are set to blink/fade, X-MasTree will treat your CPU very nicely.
Toggling the shadow no longer leaves weird dropouts behind.
Added the option to set Christmas to the 24th for some European nations.
Japanese localization added courtesy of Yuzuru Shiraiwa
Lots and lots of code cleanup, if you care about those things.

Jiggler 1.2 Freeware app for Mac OS X To Keep Your Computer Awake For Important Tasks
Stick Software has announced version 1.2 of Jiggler, a freeware utility for Mac OS X. Jiggler keeps your Mac awake through those lengthy tasks when it would rather fall asleep, by jiggling your mouse periodically. No more having to open System Preferences to change your sleep time and your screensaver delay, only to have to change them back again at the end. Just jiggle!
Version 1.2 of Jiggler has lots of bells and whistles. You can jiggle for a preset period of time and then stop, to keep your machine awake through a long job and then allow it to fall asleep at the end. You can set Jiggler to jiggle automatically whenever your machine's processor is busy, or whenever a CD or DVD is being burned, or whenever a particular application is running. And there's an onscreen indication that Jiggler is active, to reassure you that your machine is being kept awake!
Jiggler joins Stick Software products such as PhotoReviewer, Eyeballs, Trisection, Fracture, BigFoot, Measles, Aquatint and Constrictor. It is freeware; if you like it, please check out our shareware products, and pay for the shareware you use.
