Open Firmware Password Version: 1.0.2

The Open Firmware Password application allows you to enable security features in Open Firmware. You can use it to prevent others from starting your computer using a CD or other disk with an operating system on it. You can use Firmware password protection to enhance access security to your computer.

When you set a Firmware password, it prevents others from starting up the computer from a volume other than the one you have chosen as the startup disk (chosen in the Startup Disk preference panel within the System Preferences.) Once security is enabled, you cannot startup from other devices such as an external FireWire disk, a CD-ROM drive, or another partition or disk inside the computer.

System Requirements
— Mac OS X 10.1 or later

3D-Space VFS 1.1 Dock Replacement [OS 10.2 up]

3D-Space VFS uses 3D to give you a commanding view of all your favorite files, folders, and applications in one place, so you can quickly and easily get to each one of them.

• Easy visual launcher / dock.
• Docks hundreds of your favorite items in glorious, spacious 3D!
• Interactive magnification, 3D panning and viewpoint tilting.
• Fast OpenGL graphics.
• Can store actual files and folders, like pop-up Finder windows in 3D.

With prime docking space to spare, you'll be able to keep far more of your favorite items at your fingertips than ever before. And now they can also be arranged in more meaningful, visually pleasing ways.

• When 3D-Space VFS is running, pointing at an item magnifies it. This makes it easy to access items in the back.
• You'll also see the viewpoint change automatically to give you the best view of what you're pointing at.
• Drag the ground to the left or right to pan the view.
• Drag files and folders to/from the Finder and other applications, open files and launch applications, customize your drawers, simplify file management with 3D space storage, and more!
• The included Quick Help walks you through a tutorial-like tour of all the important features.

Each 3D drawer can offer instant access to about as many items as 10 to 20 stacked Mac OS X docks.

New possibilities arise when you combine these larger spaces with a 3D perspective and OpenGL acceleration:

• A flick of the mouse and all your favorite items appear. No names to remember, just point and click the one you want.
• There's ample room to space things out, your dock doesn't have to feel cramped anymore.
• You can arrange items the way you prefer, both for looks and better organization.
• You now have enough docking space for all those items that wouldn't fit in the dock before.
• You can make drawers as large as you like to get a good view, and they still run FAST.
• One or just a few drawers will be enough to store all the items you like to keep close at hand.
• Because the speed comes from the graphics hardware, the CPU remains free to run other apps.

Fast 3D makes new things possible. Give yourself some time to play with 3D drawers and soon you won't want to go back to the old way.

Launcher + Finder Interface

Just like a Finder window, a 3D drawer can store documents, folders and applications. It is not limited to aliases like docks and launchers usually are. This makes each 3D drawer a convenient place to store things:

• Instead of leaving thing on your desktop, put them in a 3D drawer. You'll be able to store more items, and they'll be out of the way until you need them.
• ExposĂ© hides windows to let you see the desktop, each 3D drawer opens to show a new desktop on top of windows.
• Remember pop-up Finder windows? They popped open from small tabs on the bottom of the screen. Well, they're back, except this time they're in 3D!

A 3D drawer displays a 3D representation of the contents of a standard Finder folder. Anything you drag to a 3D drawer is stored in the corresponding Finder folder. You can copy files and folders, move, rename, delete, make aliases, just like in the Finder. And if you ever need to see a list view, just hit the space bar to have the folder open in the Finder.

When you drag items to a 3D space, use the option, control and command keys as you would in the Finder, to choose whether to create an alias, make a copy, or move an item. You can also disable 3D space storage if you prefer to use 3D-Space VFS only as a traditional dock/launcher.

Version 1.1 - January 28, 2005
• Stores actual files and folders, like Pop-Up Finder windows in 3D.
• Improved triggering of viewpoint changes.
• Better drawer automation: they should now do what you expect in most situations, staying open or closing themselves.
• Augmented menus and contextual menus.
• Variable panning speed: slower when dragging near middle of display.
• Switching 3D spaces is now illustrated by a new set of sample 3D spaces.
• Fixed a crash that occured if multiple windows were opened the first time the application was run.
• Fixed an intermittent crash on 10.2.8.
• Misc. other fixes and improvements.

burnItAgainSam 1.4 Adds Or Updates Files On A Already Burned CD-R [OS X 10.3 up]

BurnItAgainSam lets you add files to your CDR multiple times easily. Instead of showing a CDR icon for each session, the CDR burnt using burnItAgainSam shows all the files ever burnt together, as if you had burnt them at once. The format of the CDR is also windows compatible. Plus: BurnItAgainSam lets you change the name of your CDR at each burn.

why burnitagainsam
- use your CDR until it is full
- be able to add small files
- find all files in one CDR icon
- rename your CDR each burn

Features
- supports CDR and CDRW
- windows compatible format
- supports resource forks

BurnItAgainSam makes burning "linked" multisession CDRs really easy. You can add as little data as your want to your CDR at each burn without creating a confusing CDROM that mounts multiple icons when inserted. You will not waste space because this allows you to continue adding data until the CDR is completely full. Equally named files will be overwritten and the CDR will only show their most recent version. Backing up your data to a CDR has never been easier.
Furthermore, the resulting CDR is windows compatible.

More technically, burnItAgainSam is a tool that burns folders or files as a ISO 9660 joliet rock ridge multisession CDR, that links to previous sessions if they are available.

To avoid confusion, you can add files only to CDRs that have not been "closed". (Either you have used BurnItAgainSam from the start or any other program that supports leaving the CDRs appendable.) CDRs that have been burnt using the Finder have been "closed" and therefore can not be appended.

New in this version:
• various bugfixes and improvements
• german localisation
• french localisation

System requirements:
• Mac OS X 10.3 or higher

TinkerTool 3.3c Adds Functionality & Options To Many OS X Features

TinkerTool is an application that gives you access to additional preference settings Apple has built into Mac OS X. This allows to activate hidden features in the operating system and in some of the applications delivered with the system.

The tool makes sure that preference changes can only affect the current user. You don't need administrative privileges to use the tool. With this design, it is no problem to use TinkerTool in professional networks where users have restricted permissions. The program will never change any component of the operating system, so the integrity of your system is not put at risk, and there will be no negative effect on system updates.

All preference settings changed by TinkerTool can be reset to Apple's defaults, or to the state that existed before using the tool. No dangerous background processes are used for TinkerTool's operation.

Because TinkerTool only gives you access to features already built into Mac OS X, its feature set varies greatly between different operating system versions.

Temperature Monitor 2.4 Displays The Current CPU Temperature [OS 10.2.5 up]

Temperature Monitor is an application to read out all available temperature sensors in Macintosh computers. The program can display and visualize measured values in a large variety of fashions. The application supports the following operations on the measured readings:

• display in a default window
• output in a screen display in front or in the background of the screen
• tabular display in an overview window
• display in the menu-bar
• display of a maximum of two readings in the Dock
• graphical display of short-term and long-term history curves
• speech output of readings
• display of minimum and maximum values
• export to text files

Moreover, the application can display additional technical information about your computer. Among other information this includes:

• Processor type
• Processor and bus frequencies
• Manufacturing information

Of course the application can read out the data only if your computer is equipped with the necessary sensors, and if Mac OS X can access them without needing third-party device drivers. Beginning in summer 2002, Apple has begun to massively drive forward the use of monitoring probes in the PowerMac series, the Xserve series, and in portable computers. Some models are equipped with 38 and more sensors. But Temperature and Hardware Monitor can detect sensors on many older systems as well if they are available.

We try to detect all sensors on as many Macintosh computer types as possible. However, a prediction which sensors are available in which models is not possible, because Apple very often releases "silent product updates", where the hardware equipments of some models are changed but the names are not (specifications are"subject to change without notice"). The particular graphics card and hard disk configuration used is also important because these parts can include independent sensors, too.

Please note that Apple does not support an official or standardized way of reading out sensor data in Mac OS X (the only exception is the Server Monitor application for the Xserve series). Moreover, there is no documentation or other technical note about the individual function of the sensors. For this reason, the development of Temperature Monitor and Hardware Monitor is very costly because the necessary data has to be determined by reverse engineering and tests run on a variety of computer models.

New in this version:
• Support for many new hard disk models has been added.
• Support for some previously undetected sensors of the Xserve and the Xserve G5 has been added.
• A workaround for a bug in Mac OS X 10.3.7 has been added: On computers with incorrect DNS configurations, Panther 10.3.7 imposes a delay of approximately 1 minute to applications which have to know the computer's TCP/IP name. Among many other programs, Temperature Monitor and Hardware Monitor were affected by these delays. The applications will now detect this problem and cancel the request after 3 seconds. This allows the programs to be used in incorrectly configured TCP/IP networks with Mac OS X 10.3.7.
• Alarm triggers for temperature sensors now automatically recompute their thresholds when the user switches to a different temperature unit.
• The boot ROM version is now additionally displayed in the system overview.
• The application notifies users who have forgotten to define different colors for curves in the history graphs.
• Fixes a problem where old readouts could be displayed in the Dock when the application was quit.
• Many small changes and optimizations in the user interface.

Tofu 1.3.1 Text Reader Arranges Text In Columns [OS 10.2 up]

Tofu is... different. It is a novel application to address the common problem that people don't like reading text on the screen.

Why is that anyway? I believe there are two main reasons: line width and visual instability.

Text is usually very wide on the screen, which makes going from the end of one line to the beginning of the next difficult. That's why newspapers have narrow columns: It makes them faster to read.

So why not just take a normal window and make it narrower, scrolling down as you need? Well, there are usually a lot of lines in a text, and all look more or less the same, so if they move past your eyes vertically, they are difficult to keep track of. The text doesn't feel stable, and you get lost easily.

In Tofu, text is arranged in columns, and each column is only as high as your window. So lines are nice and narrow, they don't move about vertically, plus your text is now in easy-to-digest chunks. You just scroll from column to column horizontally, and feel more in control.

Tofu also includes some other useful features to make reading easier for you. You can jump to any point in your text by simply typing some letters near it (without choosing any command first). There's a "View In Columns" service so you can, for example, grab some text from a web page. And it lets you use your voice to navigate text, so you can literally sit back and read.

New in this version:
Version 1.3 adds smooth scrolling, line rewrapping and Italian and Traditional Chinese localisations.
Revision 1.3.1 fixes a bug with line rewrapping.

DoubleCommand Keyboard Remapper

DoubleCommand is software for Mac OS X (a kernel extension) that lets you remap keys, in other words change the way your keyboard works. Often used to make a PC keyboard more comfortable with a Mac, swapping the Alt (Option) and Windows (Command or Apple) keys, since they are in swapped positions on Mac and PC keyboards. DoubleCommand is a quick and easy way to fix this if you use a PC keyboard with your Mac. Called DoubleCommand because originally it was used to give the old PowerBooks a second Command key, where there was an enter key.

DoubleCommand started out as a hack of iJect, which was generously GPL'd by Christian Starkjohann. So go check out the great software he makes over at Objective Development http://www.obdev.at

As a result, DoubleCommand is released under v2 of the GPL. Please read the file Licence.txt for more information.

DoubleCommand 1.5.3 released for Mac OS X 10.3, added support for Control + Home/End PC style and fixed a bug with Command -> Option mapping.
