Hardware Monitor 1.21 Reads Out All Available Hardware Sensors [OSX 10.2.5 up]

Hardware Monitor is an application to read out all available hardware sensors in Macintosh computers. The program can display and visualize measured values in a large variety of fashions. It can also store and export readings. The application Temperature Monitor is available for free, but is limited to accessing temperature sensors only. The application Hardware Monitor is commercial shareware, but can access additional sensors if your computer is equipped with them. This includes the following sensor types:

• Battery sensors on portable computers
• Voltage sensors
• Current (amperage) sensors
• Fan speed sensors
• Sensors for pulse-width controlled fans
• Power and load sensors

Moreover, the applications can display additional technical information about your computer. Among other information this includes:

• Processor type
• Processor and bus frequencies
• Manufacturing information

Of course the applications can read out the data only if your computer is equipped with the necessary sensors, and if Mac OS X can access them without needing third-party device drivers. Beginning in summer 2002, Apple has begun to massively drive forward the use of monitoring probes in the PowerMac series, the Xserve series, and in portable computers. Some models are equipped with 38 and more sensors. But Temperature and Hardware Monitor can detect sensors on many older systems as well if they are available.

We try to detect all sensors on as many Macintosh computer types as possible. However, a prediction which sensors are available in which models is not possible, because Apple very often releases "silent product updates", where the hardware equipments of some models are changed but the names are not (specifications are"subject to change without notice"). The particular graphics card and hard disk configuration used is also important because these parts can include independent sensors, too.

New in this version:

• Corrected a problem where the sensor window was not resized correctly after it was moved off the main screen in a multi-monitor setup, or the layout was changed for a position near the screen border.
• Corrected a problem where the color wells in the preference window could not be clicked under certain circumstances.
• Corrected a problem where alerts were triggered for the wrong threshold value.
• The user interface for the warning of an unstable operating system version was changed (Hardware Monitor only). It is now possible to set a user preference that disables the warning per computer. The preference panel contains a new button to re-activate all disabled sensors.

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2.5 or higher

Temperature Monitor 2.21 Displays The Current CPU Temperature [OSX 10.2.5 up]

Temperature Monitor is an application to read out all available temperature sensors in Macintosh computers. The program can display and visualize measured values in a large variety of fashions. The application supports the following operations on the measured readings:

• display in a default window
• display in a floating window
• tabular display in an overview window
• display in the menu-bar
• display of a maximum of two readings in the Dock
• graphical display of short-term and long-term history curves
• speech output of readings
• export to text files

Moreover, the application can display additional technical information about your computer. Among other information this includes:

• Processor type
• Processor and bus frequencies
• Manufacturing information

Of course the application can read out the data only if your computer is equipped with the necessary sensors, and if Mac OS X can access them without needing third-party device drivers. Parsnips 0.8b Stores and Retrieves Snippets of Text Easily [OS 10.2 up]

If you're like most people, you constantly come across useful bits of information throughout the day while using your computer.  It may come from a web site, e-mail, chat sessions, usenet news articles or just files that you have been sent.  Parsnips now gives you a place to store all these bits of useful text and easily find them later.

Using a drag and drop interface, you select the text you want to save and drag it into Parsnips.  Parsnips automatically creates an "item" for the information, and saves it away for later retrieval.  You can also give the item a title, an associated URL or assign keywords to it.  Later, when you want to find that information again, you can search for it using Parsnips powerful search mechanism.  With Parsnips you can:

• find all items containing specific words or boolean combinations of words in either the title or the main body of text.
• find items containing one or more keywords you have attached to the them.
• find all items created in the past day, week, month, year, or any arbitrary range of dates.

Parsnips' search mechanism is similar to the popular Google search engine.  However in this case you are searching your personally relevant information rather than the web at large.

The text for an item doesn't have to come from a pre-existing source.  You can create initially blank items and type or paste into it whatever text you wish.  In this way Parsnips can serve as a free-form database.

Parsnips can keep track of more than text. If you drag and drop any sort of file onto Parsnips, it will create an item for it and record the file's location on your computer. You can add keywords for the item or add comments about it. Later you can easily locate and open the non-text file by searching in the keywords or comments.

Parsnips can also export either all or some subset of its items to standard text files.  This means your important information has the freedom to be moved to other applications if you later choose to do so.

New in this version:
• A search term without any explict field specified will now search in all fields. Previously, only the main body was searched if there was no explicit field.
• In the Results list, there was a blank line displayed if there wasn't any text in the body of the item. This looked strange and has been removed.
• When you drag text onto Parsnips the newly created item is left in edit mode with the Title field having keyboard focus.
• Fixed bug where the caret wasn't blinking in the Display pane when the text was editable.
• Changed the highlight color of a selected item to be the default text selection color.
• No longer change the background color of the text in the Display pane when it is editable. Instead, I now draw a 1 pixel black line around it to indicate its editable status.
• When you export the search results, all exported files now have a ".txt" extension.
• When you first start Parsnips before adding any items, the message displayed is now "There are no items in the database" as opposed to "No matching items".
• Changes all references to Parsnips' "Index" into "Database". I think that term may be more familiar and intuitive to people.
• Added a version string to the Splash window.
• Added the Java version info to the About Dialog.
• Fixed bug in searching for Date ranges. The end date was not being handled correctly.

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
Java 1.3 or higher.
128 MB RAM

Parsnips is $15.00 shareware
