Mesa 3.0.10 Excel-Compatible Spreadsheet App [OS X]

Mesa is a spreadsheet built for Mac OS X. It has multiple worksheets (like Excel) and uses a subset of Excel's commands and functions (as well as some all it's own). It doesn't include macros or ODBC capabilities. It will import Excel files very successfully if you're using simple data, formulas and functions and formatting, but we don't guarantee complete Excel compatibility. You can save Mesa files in Excel format and read them in Excel. And once you've done your calculations, you can produce charts and good-looking reports, and copy your charts into other programs like Mail.

If you want more calculation power than a calculator or Appleworks, but don't want or need all the features (or the price!) of Excel, Mesa is the Mac OS X spreadsheet for you. Simple and elegant - and a pure Cocoa application - Mesa gives you the power you need in the package you want.

• Multiple 'tabbed' worksheets in a workbook, just like Excel
• Reads and Writes Excel files
• Unlimited worksheet size - as many rows and columns as you need
• All the usual Functions and copy, paste, formatting etc features you'd expect
• 'Undo / Redo' feature for the previous 20 steps
• SmartFill[TM] automatically generates logical sequences of numbers, dates, days, etc.
• Formula Inheritance[TM] makes building and maintaining worksheets faster and easier using our SMARTFILL feature. Enter a formula in one call of the worksheet, and use it again in any cell. All referenced cells will update automatically upon change and recalculation without time-consuming copy and paste.
• Easily place spreadsheet ranges and graphs into presentation-quality reports using the Visual Report Builder.
• Graphing capabilities (15 different chart types) allow you to effectively communicate the meaning of your data in 2D and 3D graphs.
• Drag and Drop fonts and colors onto ranges and graphs for direct manipulation on screen. Use Macintosh Drag & Drop to place graphic images anywhere on a sheet or report.
• Mesa features file import compatibility with Excel[TM and of course, delimited text. Save in Excel and delimited text format

When you download Mesa it will run in Evaluation Mode, restricting you to worksheets no larger than 20 rows * 20 columns. You can buy a license online to fully enable Mesa.

New in this version:
• Fixes various crashing issues under Panther (some may remain).
• By popular request no longer opens new workbook on launch.

For more information, visit:
Mac OS X 10.0 or higher

Mesa sells for $39.00. A free Evaluation version of Mesa is available for download from Mesa's homepage on iDisk.

Tofu 1.1.1 On-screen Text Reader, Arranges Text In Columns [OS 10.2 up]

Tofu is... different. It is a novel application to address the common problem that people don't like reading text on the screen.

Text is usually very wide on the screen, which makes going from the end of one line to the beginning of the next difficult. That's why newspapers have narrow columns: It makes them faster to read.

So why not just take a normal window and make it narrower, scrolling down as you need? Well, there are usually a lot of lines in a text, and all look more or less the same, so if they move past your eyes vertically, they are difficult to keep track of. The text doesn't feel stable, and you get lost easily.

In Tofu, text is arranged in columns, and each column is only as high as your window. So lines are nice and narrow, they don't move about vertically, plus your text is now in easy-to-digest chunks. You just scroll from column to column horizontally, and feel more in control.

Tofu also includes some other useful features to make reading easier for you. You can jump to any point in your text by simply typing some letters near it (without choosing any command first). There's a "View In Columns" service so you can, for example, grab some text from a web page. And it lets you use your voice to navigate text, so you can literally sit back and read.

New in this version:
• Added full-screen viewing in the View menu.
• Added line height control to the preferences. (Mac OS X 10.3 only)
• You can now specify your preferred text colour in the preferences.
• Changed "Plain text font" to "preferred font".
• Changed "View as plain text" to "Use preferred font", which preserves sizes, colours and traits.
• Added option in the preferences to automatically apply preferred font to rich text.
• Split the preferences into tabs (sorry, the window was getting too full.)
• After resizing, now scrolls roughly back to the same position in the text when layout is complete, unless you scroll manually in the meantime.
• Dropping or pasting when reusing windows no longer crashes (really).
• Revision 1.1.1 fixes an incompatibility with Mac OS X 10.2

Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

WinSwitch 1.2.1 Enhanced Replacement For Fast User Switching Menu [OS X 10.3 up]

Apple did a superb job with its new Fast User Switching feature in Panther (Mac OS X 10.3), but for users with long names, the associated menu item is a terrible waste of precious Menu Bar real estate.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could access the feature through a compact, icon-sized Menu Bar icon? WinSwitch does exactly that, closely matching the performance and style of the Apple-provided menu, but without all the bulk. In fact, it even corrects some problems with Apple's menu by eliminating certain "daemon" users which shouldn't show up in the list, and by improving the alignment of user icons in the menu. WinSwitch gives you rapid access to the Accounts preference pane, and is completely customizable, allowing you to choose from four different menu bar styles:Standard icon, User picture, Full username or Short username.

New in this version:
• Increased size of the user picture in the menu bar (now 19x19 pixels instead of 16x16).
• Swedish localization by Christoffer Araskog.
• Italian localization by Michele Zangrossi.
• Fixed bug that could prevent "Login window" and other menu items from appearing at the bottom of the menu.
• The same fix corrects the "items listed twice" issue (bug #303).
• Minor cosmetic changes to source code to improve readability.
• Now uses Install version 1.2.1, which includes several bug fixes and other enhancements.

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.3 or later

ImageBrowser 1.2 Image Display And Catalog [OS 10.2 up]

ImageBrowser is a simple program for viewing and organising images. The ImageBrowser window is split into two sections. The list on the left shows a list of all the files in a folder. You can move around all the folders on your hard drive using either the mouse or keyboard. The images can either be shown as thumbnails or generic Finder icons. As each image is selected it is shown in the image view on the right side of the window.

Features include:

• Three Thumbnail Sizes: Large, medium and small.

• File Operations: You can Rename, Delete, and Edit images. Also create new folders, show file information, and show the image file in the Finder.

• Drag and drop: An Image, or multiple images, can be moved between folders by dragging and dropping them on the new folder. You can drag to folders in other ImageBrowser windows.

• Copy: Copy the image or the image's name to the clipboard.

• Bookmark folders: Make it easy to jump to the folder you want to browser by adding a bookmark to the Bookmark menu.

• Multiple views: Images can be view in different formats: actual size, proportional, stretched.

MacJournal 2.6b2 Tool For Journals, Logs, Diaries [OS 10.2 up]

MacJournal is a program for creating, modifying, and managing a personal journal. It can be used for diaries, logs; most anything. And, because it's written using Cocoa in Mac OS X, it supports all the cool OS X doodads you would expect. Things like toolbars, spell checker, font and color panels, localization, and drawers are all utilized to provide you with a useful and consistent interface that you're used to in Mac OS X.

In May of 2002, MacJournal 2.1 won the Apple Design Awards in the Student Category.

When you first open MacJournal, a new entry in a new journal is created for you. You're free to type anything you want and set a topic for that entry. If you want to make a new entry, press the "New" button in the toolbar, or use the "New" command in the File menu. Your entries are saved whenever you switch entries or make a new entry. Other functions, such as Delete Entry and Revert Entry all function as you would expect. These all bring up a warning asking you to make sure you want to do this, which you can turn off in the Preferences box. If you would like to change the layout and makeup of the toolbar, click on the "Customize" button, or use the "Customize Toolbar..." menu item in the Edit menu to mix and match to your heart's content. There are many more items that you can select that aren't in the default set. You can make new journals or save the ones you have into a new file that you can move between computers.

Features
• Multiple Journals - You can have as many journals as you like to keep track of different things. Have one for your work log, and have another for your personal diary.
• Password Protection - Individual journals can be password protected to prevent prying eyes from seeing your entries. Store the password in the Keychain, and set a hint to make sure that only you can remember the password.
• Encryption - Journals are encrypted using industry-standard AES-256 algorithm.
• Searching - Search all of the entries in all of your journals with one click.
• Import/Export - You can import and export the text of an entry into an RTF (Rich Text Format) file anywhere you choose. Entire journals can also be exported into RTF and HTML. Also, if you have Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), you can import WordÂ? documents.
• Printing - Print any entry to a printer or PDF file.
• Mac OS X Toolbar - Most functions are available as items in the customizable toolbar in the main window.
• Rich Text Editing - Individual entries can have multiple colors, fonts, kerning, spacing; anything you want. In addition, you can drag image files from the file into entries to add them! Rulers can also be displayed to further help you align things.
• Blogging Support - MacJournal can upload your entries to LiveJournal and any website that supports the Blogger protocol
• Localizations
° Catalan
° Danish
° Dutch
° French
° German
° Icelandic
° Japanese
° Korean
° Norwegian
° Russian
° Serbian
° Spanish
° Swedish
• Preferences - MacJournal allows you to customize several features, such as warnings and spellcheck.
• Spellcheck - MacJournal provides the Mac OS X spellcheck for your convenience in composing entries.
• Backup - MacJournal keeps a backup of your entries that it refreshes whenever you quit the application. You can use this as a last-ditch method to get back anything you've lost.
• Help Documentation - All new Help documentation has been written just for MacJournal 2.5.

New in this version:
• Tweaks and improvements to the new toolbar items for font face and size
• Fixed crash when unencrypting journal with incorrect password
• Fixed drawers not remembering their open state between launches
• Fixed exporting to MacJournal format on Jaguar systems
• Changed the way topics are set for entries created via the "New Entry With Selection" service to include the application name and Safari URL (if appropriate) or Mail message subject (if appropriate)
• Release notes will now open in a new window instead of in your current journal
• Moved the command key equivalent that was errantly assigned to Customize Toolbar to its rightful home on "Show/Hide Toolbar"
• Added Undo support for the Find panel for Jaguar systems (it's already there on Panther)
• Added temporary menu item for reverting the checkbox format so you can open your data in 2.5.
• Fixed errors importing a text file and parsing it to discover entries therein.
• Improved file importing for most cases to not create an entry empty entry with new journals
• Hold the Option key when clicking on the Lock button to unlock all the journals with the same password (you could already option-click it to lock all journals; this is the logical converse).

Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

SMARTReporter 1.0b3 Warns Of ATA Drive Failure Before It Happens [OS X 10.3 up]

SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of (ATA) hard-drive failures before they actually happen. It does so by periodically polling the S.M.A.R.T.-status of your (ATA) hard-drives. S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a technology built into most modern hard-drives that acts as an "early warning system" for pending drive problems. Because SMARTReporter relies on the S.M.A.R.T. implementation of Mac OS X, it only supports ATA-hard-drives, if you want S.M.A.R.T. support for your SCSI or FireWire hard-drive, send feedback to Apple.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a public-beta release, so it may or may not work as advertised. It may even destroy your computer and burn down your house, so use it at your own risk. If you encounter any bugs or problems please write a DETAILED bug-report so I can fix it.

New in this version:
• Made "start at login" menu item work (toggle if SMARTReporter should start at login)
• SMARTReporter's windows and dialogs will now always be displayed in front, so you can't miss them
• Colorized the "Current Status" values in the Drive-Configuration window
• Now tests for Mac OS X 10.3
