SafariNoTimeout 1.1 Haxie Changes 60 Second Connection Timeout In Safari [OS 10.2 up]

Safari, free web browser from Apple, suffers from a very short request timeout - 60 seconds. Some database-driven report pages and others fail to load because of that timeout. SafariNoTimeout is a haxie that allows you to change the connection request timeout in Safari to a different value (by default it sets it to 10 minutes).

SafariNoTimeout is an essential tool for any web developer or a user who has ever experienced an annoying 60 seconds timeout while waiting for a web page.

SafariNoTimeout is an InputManager plugin. Application Enhancer is not required for this haxie to function.

New in v1.1:
• Updated the installer to fix a visual bug while installing.
• Updated the icon, read me file and other cosmetic improvements.

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
Requires Safari 0.9 or newer

Speed Freak version 2.2

Speed Freak, at a user-specified interval, reprioritizes applications so that the frontmost (or active) application gets more processor time than background applications. By default in Mac OS X, all processes have equal priority. By using Speed Freak, you override this default by increasing the priority of whatever application you are currently using, resulting in faster application performance. Speed Freak accomplishes this through the Unix "renice" command.

Speed Freak does not affect graphics card performance and will show little to no increase in 3D games. Although Speed Freak does not affect network performance, the increased CPU priority it offers should increase performance in internet applications. For example, web pages with complicated HTML should render faster but download speed will not change.

changes with version 2.2
• Added option to use Unix reice values in the "Advanced" tab.
• Code Optimizations.
• Now allows window resizing.
• Cosmetic changes.
• Japanese localization. (Thanks to "E-WA")

ImageBrowser is a simple program for viewing and organising images and movies. The ImageBrowser window is split into two sections (see the screenshots below). The list on the left shows a list of all the files in a folder, and you can move around all the folders on your hard drive using either the mouse or keyboard. Preferential Treatment 1.0.2 Checks Preference Files For Corruption

Preferential Treatment has garnered a quite a bit of attention lately, which is gratifying. It has been chosen as a Macworld Magazine Mac Gem in the August 2004 issue, it’s been featured in Ted Landau’s Mac OS X Help Line, Panther Edition (and is part of Ted’s “Top Ten Troubleshooting Tips for Panther”), it has been the software “Pick of the Week” at http://www.macosxhints.com, the “Utility of the Month” at http://www.macfixit.com, and has been very favorably reviewed at http://www.versiontracker.com and http://www.macupdate.com Thanks for the encouragement!

Building on a discussion at http://www.macintouch.com, this application will check your preference files (both in your user’s preference folder and the system’s preference folder) for corruption by using the “plutil” command line tool. If it finds suspect files, it will list the files and allow you to reveal them in the Finder or move them to the trash. You may also double-click on a file in the found files table to open it in the application of your choice (you can designate the default application from the preferences). There is also an option to save the results of a scan to a text file. (Note: if you trash a file before saving a report, the report will not include information on the file you moved to the trash.)

“Preferential Treatment” is basically a GUI wrapped around the “plutil” command line tool provided by Apple Computer, Inc. since Mac OS X 10.2 (see “man plutil” in the Terminal). “plutil” just checks to see if .plist files are valid XML. This application is no panacea but it does help to fix blatantly corrupt preference files.

There are some files that require administrative permission for this application to check them properly. If the account from which you run this application is not in the admin group, you will not be able to check these files. For this reason, for maximum benefit, it is highly recommended that you run this application from an administrative account.

New in this version:
• Addresses a potential security concern through improved validation.

System requirements:
• Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

HistoryHound 1.5.1 Searches Safari/IE/OmniWeb history/bookmark content [OS 10.2 up]

Go back to pages in your browser Bookmarks or History by typing any words that appear on them!

HistoryHound lets you do a fast text search on the entire content of all web pages you've visited recently, plus all the pages you've bookmarked. It's a "personal web search." Just type in a few keywords and HistoryHound gives you a list of pages you've viewed recently, ranked by relevance.

Have you ever tried to find something in your browser history or bookmarks, but couldn't quite remember when or where you saw it? Or perhaps you've got your bookmarks meticulously organized, but it takes forever to mouse through the menus to get to something you want? HistoryHound will chase down the page for you - fast.

Powered by Mac OS X Panther's "V-Twin" search technology for fast searching, HistoryHound scans your browser's cache, history, and bookmarks periodically to keep its search index up to date. It also includes a built-in browser based on WebKit, the same engine that's inside Safari, so your search results are rendered quickly and accurately. A number of different options make HistoryHound convenient and fast to use, and the fully-functional demo runs for 30 days with no limitations.

HistoryHound fits the way you work by offering you a number of options:

• Choose the full search window, or an unobtrusive search palette. <IMG> If you don't need fancy previews, sorting by name and relevance, or a preview window, use HistoryHound's search palette instead. You can use it as a normal window, configure it to float above everything else, or to hide itself when HistoryHound is in the background.

• Assign a hot key to quickly call HistoryHound into action. It's almost as easy as shouting "Go get it boy!" A quick press of command-option-space (or any other key combination you choose) brings HistoryHound to the front and selects the search field. You just type and it finds what you're looking for.

• Pick a search method that works for you. Search for any or all of your search terms, use a boolean search, or take advantage of the include/exclude notation to quickly find what you want.

• Follow your tracks for as long as you want. You can tell HistoryHound to keep as many days of your web browsing history as you like. Even when your browser has long forgotten where you've been, HistoryHound will remember.
New in this version:
• Fixed a bug that caused stop words not to be correctly displayed in the help window.
• Corrected a problem that could result in HistoryHound failing to launch on some machines.

Recent changes (version 1.5)

• Added support for OmniWeb and URL Manager Pro.
• Downloading, indexing and searching is much smarter and more efficient.
• You can now specify filter strings to prevent HistoryHound from adding certain URL's to its index.
• Recent searches are remembered so you can quickly repeat a query.
• A new drawer provides quick access to search options.
• You can now search only a portion of the index.
• HistoryHound has a new find command for searching the browser preview window and the list of indexed pages.
• When adding new search items to the index, you can now choose which indexer to use.
• HistoryHound no longer indexes password-protected pages.
• All recently-visited pages are added to the index, even those that only have a title and URL, but no text on them.
• Extracting URLs from a file with the extension ".monitor" redownloads every page in the file each time a scan is done. This is useful if you want to keep an up-to-the-minute index of a list of news sites.
• Both lists in the Index Status window are now resizable.
• Added the ability to rebuild the index by re-downloading all indexed pages.

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.3 or higher

WindowsUpdater for Mac OS X 10.3 Or Higher

This small floating palette, automatically forces the refresh of the Finder windows contents.

A popup menu lets the user selects the frequence of the automatic refresh. Alternatively the user can force the refresh simply clicking on the button "Update Windows".

WindowsUpdater is useful whenever the Finder won't update automatically the contents of the windows, or when it delays at updating the windows. Like any OS X user knows, in fact, after creating documents like PDF files using Acrobat Distiller or when working as "control station" of remote file servers, the Finder delays the refresh of the windows contents.

Tubetrack 0.4.1 London, UK, Dublin Live Rail Arrivals Board [OS X 10.1 up]

Tubetrack is a little utility that sits on your desktop, periodically updating its dot matrix indicator display with the next set of trains due to arrive or depart via the following services -
• London Tube ETA
• London DLR Daisy
• UK National Rail
• Dublin DART

Tubetrack is not affiliated with Transport for London, National Rail or Iarnród Éireann in any way, it displays the same information on your desktop as you would receive in your browser.

Tubetrack will run happily on Mac OS X, Mac OS 9, Linux (SuSE and RedHat - GTK 2) and Microsoft Windows. An internet connection of some sort is required in order for the train information to update.

Do you work or live close to a Bakerloo tube, DLR, DART or UK rail station? Rather than making a mad dash and then facing an indefinite wait at the station, check Tubetrack for your next train. Then pop down to the station when you're ready!

Transport for London are currently running a trial to put their live arrivals information on the web. The trial consists only of the Bakerloo Line between Queens Park and Elephant and Castle and the DLR stations. Keep an eye on the Tube ETA web site for more lines soon. A new version of Tubetrack shouldn't be far behind. All rail stations throughout the UK should be available - if one isn't, check National Rail's web site.

Tubetrack is designed to be a lightweight little utility that looks like a dot matrix indicator and acts as a desktop widget. I originally considered developing Tubetrack in Konfabulator, but did not agree with people having to purchase the Konfabulator application in order to run Tubetrack. Therefore, Tubetrack looks and feels like a Konfabulator widget but doesn't require Konfabulator!

Version 0.4.1 New:
- Ability to reset all Tubetrack settings
- Many other minor fixes

Version 0.4.0
- Live departures and arrivals for Dublin's DART suburban rail
- Access to maps for each service via a map icon
- Bug fixes including Newcastle (metro) issue

New in this version:
• Ability to reset all Tubetrack settings
• Many other minor fixes

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.1 or higher

The dock's Tubetrack icon is designed to give you easy access to the Tubetrack window. If you would prefer it to remain invisible, please download the iconless version (coming soon) of Tubetrack OS X. Due to inherent OS X limitations, the Tubetrack window of the iconless version will remain hidden behind other windows even when you click on it - as a result, it can only be used from the desktop.

Tubetrack is freeware
