Updates For Easyfind, ServicePack; New PDF2RTFService Released

DEVONtechnologies LLC has released updates for its freeware file find application EasyFind, the Mac OS X services HotService and WordService and launches a brand-new filter service, PDF2RTFService.

EasyFind 3.4.1 displays the results with striped background for better readability and fixes some bugs, and WordService 2.6 adds support for styled text as well as new and revised commands for stripping attachments and links from rich text and for reformatting oddly formatted text. This makes working with WordService in rich-text-aware applications such as TextEdit, Pages or Mail even more comfortable.

Besides activating keyboard shortcuts in Cocoa applications without having to open the Services sub-menu at least once, HotService 2.0 now also makes the Services menu accessible through a new top level menu next to the Window menu. With HotService 2.0, services are now just one click away and not longer buried in the depth of applications’ main menus.

Finally, the brand-new PDF2RTFService 1.0 allows all Cocoa applications that can read RTF files to open PDF, PostScript and EPS files as styled and paginated rich text documents. PDF2RTFService requires Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger as it makes heavy use of new functionalities in Quartz.

EasyFind 3.4.1 and HotService run on Mac OS X 10.2 or later, WordService needs at least Mac OS X 10.3 and PDF2RTFService requires on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. All four applications/servies are immediately available for downloading from http://www.devon-technologies.com and are free for non-commercial use.

burnItAgainSam 2.0.1 Adds Or Updates Files On A Already Burned CD-R [OS X 10.3 up]

BurnItAgainSam lets you add files to your CDR multiple times easily. Instead of showing a CDR icon for each session, the CDR burnt using BurnItAgainSam shows all the files ever burnt together, as if you had burnt them at once. The format of the CDR is also windows compatible. Plus: BurnItAgainSam lets you change the name of your CDR at each burn.

BurnItAgainSam performs real incremental updating if you burn a Folder twice, automatically checking what files have been added or changed and only using space for these. If you want, you can decide to start over at any time and hide the contents of previous sessions at the next burn.

BurnItAgainSam makes burning "linked" multisession CDRs really easy. You can add as little data as your want to your CDR at each burn without creating a confusing CDROM that mounts multiple icons when inserted. You will not waste space because this allows you to continue adding data until the CDR is completely full. Equally named files will be overwritten and the CDR will only show their most recent version. With V2.0 it even check what files have changed and reburns only the new ones. Backing up your data to a CDR has never been easier.
Furthermore, the resulting CDR is windows compatible.

More technically spoken, BurnItAgainSam is a tool that burns folders or files as a ISO 9660 joliet rock ridge multisession CDR, that links to previous sessions if they are available, and performs incremental updating during data preparation.

To avoid confusion i might add that you can add files only to CDRs that have not been "closed". (Either you have used BurnItAgainSam from the start or any other program that supports leaving the CDRs appendable.) CDRs that have been burnt using the Finder have been "closed" and therefore can not be appended.

• use your CDR until it is full
• update files&folders incrementally
• find all files in one CDR icon
• rename your CDR each burn

• supports CDR and CDRW
• windows compatible format
• supports resource forks
• ready for Tiger

NEW IN V2.0
• automatic incremental update
• option to hide previous sessions
• improved user interface

current version: v2.0.1
new: fixed a bug that caused burn errors on certain G5 systems

System Requirements
The current release of BurnItAgainSam (v2.0) requires MacOSX 10.3 or higher and an Apple supported CDRW drive.
BurnItAgainSam also supports MacOSX 10.4.

burnItAgainSam is $25.00 shareware. BurnItAgainSam can be tested for 20 trial burns.

People who purchased a license for older versions may upgrade for $15.

iScroll2 0.24 Two Finger Scrolling For Pre-2005 PowerBooks & iBooks [OS X 10.3 up]

iScroll2 is a modified trackpad driver that adds two-finger scrolling capabilities to supported pre-2005 PowerBooks and iBooks on OS X 10.3. Supported models include aluminum PowerBooks introduced from 2003 to 2004 as well as all G4 iBooks.

Please note that this is not just the driver for the 2005 models hacked to run older models - the new models use a completely different trackpad and driver. iScroll2 is based on Apple's AppleADBMouse-209.0.10 driver for the trackpads found on older models, which is available as part of the publicly released Darwin source code (and covered by the APSL). The code added for supporting two-finger scrolling was written from scratch.

The installer will tell you whether your machine is supported or not. Alternatively, you can use a little script. Just unpack and double-click in Finder.

Please note that both the driver and this check may not work if you have another alternative trackpad driver (such as SideTrack or FingaMIDI) installed.

As of version 0.20, iScroll2 includes preliminary Tiger support.

As should be obvious from the version numbers, iScroll2 is still in its early stages of development. While I do my best to avoid them, pre-1.0 releases are likely to contain bugs, and may also contain experimental functionality. If you encounter any issues, please don't hesitate to provide feedback. Please include a description of the problem you're encountering, how to reproduce it, the relevant version numbers (iScroll2, OS X), the PowerBook or iBook model you're using and anything else that might be related to the issue you're reporting.

Warning: iScroll2 has not yet been thoroughly tested on Tiger.

New in this version:
• made iScroll2Daemon load settings for current user at startup
• made StartupItem load later in the boot process

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.3 or later

Wolfram Notebook Indexer Spotlight plugin for OS X 10.4 Tiger

Wolfram Research has released Wolfram Notebook Indexer as part of an ongoing effort in search and conversion tools for Mathematica notebooks. Wolfram Notebook Indexer is a Mac OS X Spotlight plug-in that supports text and metadata searches of all Wolfram notebooks (.nb) on the local hard drive, including those that are part of Mathematica's online help system. Wolfram Notebook Indexer does not use or need Mathematica; it instead leverages the open, structured syntax of notebook files to convert them to text easily indexed by the Spotlight searching engine.

Spotlight is only available in Mac OS X 10.4 (also known as Mac OS X Tiger)

When the final version of Wolfram Notebook Indexer becomes available, Wolfram Research will open-source the application, making the notebook parsing code available to external developers who want to write their own searching and conversion tools for Mathematica notebooks.
