1359 In Japan, a Zen Garden is a garden created within a shallow sandpit containing sand, rocks and other natural elements. The sand is usually raked into patterns that suggest rippling water, with the stones suggesting islands. These patterns, which are beautiful and ephemeral, form an abstract art form that calms the mind of the viewer and enhances a meditative state. iZen Garden brings this beautiful art form to the iPhone OS platform.

Almost two years ago, we launched iZen Garden for the iPhone in conjunction with the launch of the iPhone App Store. It was immediately selected as a "Staff Favorite" in the App Store and, over the next two years, proceeded to win numerous awards and accolades from users and the press.

Naturally, when the iPad was announced, we felt iZen Garden would be a perfect fit for the big multi-touch screen. We really felt this magical device would bring a whole new level of connectedness to the user that even the iPhone couldn't achieve. Because of that, we totally redesigned the UI of iZen Garden to really take advantage of the new hardware and to allow users to really stretch the limits of their creativity.

Just like the iPhone version, every day when you start iZen Garden, you'll be greeted with your "Daily Zen" - a tiny bit of Zen Wisdom to help put you in the right state of mind. A relaxing ambient soundtrack plays in the background. You slide open a drawer on the side. You might select a bonsai tree, some stones or some leaves from the over 100 objects included. You drag them out of the drawer and drop them right into the sand. You rake, creating beautiful circular ripples in the sand. When finished, you might fire up the meditation timer and sit in quiet contemplation, or even better, share your beautiful creation with your friends and family on Twitter, or through Email.
