RAM Hog - New on MacOpinion

1376 In his latest Less Tangible on MacOpinion Marc Zeedar says:

I used to be perfectly happy with the performance of my MacBook. As far as I was concerned, it was blazingly fast and the two gigs of RAM I have were more than enough.

Sure, occasionally I pushed it to its limits, especially by opening too many web pages, but generally such occurrences were rare. The majority of my tasks are simple enough I don't need an 8-core machine - it's not like I'm regularly rendering 3D graphics or working with digital video.

However, that has changed with the arrival of Leopard. Suddenly my MacBook has slowed to a crawl, I run out of RAM frequently, see the dreaded "beachball" cursor all the time, switching applications can take thirty long seconds, and even waking from sleep takes a minute (or more). At first this was just a vague annoyance, but lately it's become a significant interference in my getting work done.
