Press Release Edited By Applelinks Contributing Editor Charles W. Moore

PodAide brings the world of web services to your iPod. iPod does more than audio, video and pictures. PodAide leverages the Notes feature in iPod to let you read content offline and take it with you on the go.

Universal Binary and Tiger Ready
PodAide takes advantage of the latest technologies in Mac OS X Tiger to provide a simple and reliable user experience.

Plugin Architecture
PodAide supports a plugin architecture so newer plugins can be added in future updates very easily.

If you have used Sherlock on Mac OS X then you already know how to use PodAide. PodAide is dramatically better than standard web browsers at retrieving and displaying some of the most practical and useful information available on the internet, like Bible, Cocktails, Word Lists and much, much more.

PodAide displays each of these "plugins" in its own arrangement of columns and panes. You can quickly browse through the information to find exactly what you're interested in. PodAide changes the window presentation appropriately as you move among the plugins. You can download chapters from the Bible in different languages and versions. You can download dictionary and thesaurus definitions for the words you like to know more about and also find the perfect cocktail for the dinner tonight.

You can search for the items in all the plugins and optionally choose which ones you like to copy to the iPod. And you can look forward to asking PodAide to perform more and more services using newer plugins as time goes by.

Click the cart toolbar icon to see a drawer with related products. The products are based on the content of each plugin. PodAide gets Books, Magazines, Music, Movies and other products from Amazon based on your location/country. When you switch to a different plugin the related products drawer is updated with related products. It will take a couple of minutes for PodAide to fetch the related products initially. The list of related products for each plugin is updated every six hours.

Bible Plugin
Download Bible chapters from over 30 languages, 20 versions, and 60 books. Now you can read the Bible on your iPod when you are commuting. You can find relevant chapters by searching for keywords in the chapter title or chapter text. You can also select a stylesheet for easy readability in the PodAide main window. The related products drawer will show books, magazines, music and movies from Amazon that are related to religion and Christianity.

Cocktails Plugin
Select the Cocktails you like to copy to your iPod from over five thousand items. Now you can find that perfect cocktail for the dinner tonight. You can search by title, ingredients, mixing instructions, tags and comments. You can also rate the cocktails and create new cocktail groups and cocktails. Â The related products drawer will show books, magazines and other products from Amazon.

Word Lists Plugin
Want to improve your vocabulary? It's always fun to learn new words whether its for the Spelling Bee, GRE or that weekend crossword. The default word lists have hundreds of words with dictionary and thesaurus definitions. You can create your own word lists and choose to copy those to your iPod. With this plugin you can turn your iPod in to a digital flash cards device. You can find items by word name, dictionary definition and thesaurus definition. The related products drawer will show books and magazines from Amazon.

Notes in iPod
iPod can only hold 1000 notes at a time. When you click the iPod toolbar icon in PodAide, a new PodAide folder is created in the Notes folder in iPod and it will have all the selected items. Any previous notes in the PodAide folder are deleted.
Copying selected items to the Notes folder in iPod

If you want to copy notes to the iPod Notes folder, you must enable disk access. This provides direct access to the iPod hard drive so you can create and copy your notes to the iPod. Once you enable disk use, the iPod will appear as a volume in the Finder. After copying the notes, you have to manually eject the iPod volume in the Finder and then disconnect the iPod from the computer.

Connect your iPod to the computer. In iTunes, select your iPod in the DEVICES list and select the Summary tab in the main iTunes window. Locate the "Enable disk use" checkbox in the Options pane and select it. iTunes may warn you at this point that "Enabling the iPod for disk  use requires manually ejecting the iPod before each disconnect, even when automatically updating music." If this dialog appears, click OK. Click the "Apply" button.

After a second or two, an iPod icon appears on your desktop and in the Finder. Now click the iPod toolbar icon in the PodAide main window to copy your selected items to the Notes folder in iPod. Once you've set the disk use option in iTunes, the iPod will mount on your desktop whenever you dock it.
