Frictional Games and Paradox Interactive have announced the release of Penumbra: Black Plague for Mac and Linux. Penumbra is a first person adventure game which focuses on story, immersion and puzzles. Instead of using violence to progress, the player has to use his/her wits to guide Philip on his quest to unravel the past. Following up on the release of the demo two weeks ago, the full versions are now available for $19.99 and can be obtained from the official Penumbra: Black Plague website.
Played from a first person viewpoint, Penumbra is very different from other adventure games. Not only is it powered by a 3D engine utilising cutting edge technology, it also has an advanced physics system which allows for never-before-seen environment interaction. The player can open drawers, pull levers, pick up objects and more using natural mouse movements, creating a highly interactive and dynamic game world.
Penumbra will keep players on the edge as they have to explore scary and atmospheric environments, never knowing what is behind the next corner. The world is detailed both visually and in narrative, making the player feel part of the world as secrets are uncovered.
Penumbra Black Plague minimum requirements:
- OS: Mac OS X 10.4 or newer
- Processor: 1.5Ghz
- Memory: 512MB
- Video Card: Radeon 9600/GeForce 4(GeForce4MX not supported)
The upcoming expansion Penumbra: Requiem is also heading for Mac and Linux. More details will be released as the game nears completion this summer.
