3698 Opera has released version 10.60.8362 alpha of their Web browser.

• Even faster browsing
- The JavaScript engine introduced in Opera 10.50 is being fine tuned, giving more than a 75% speed improvement in some benchmark tests.
Windows, Mac and Linux in sync

• Versions for Windows, Mac and Linux will be made available at the same time.

• Wide-screen Speed Dial
- Now, Speed Dial fits most monitors better with wide-screen thumbnails for your favorite web pages, giving a clearer preview view of websites.

• Improved tab previews
- The visual "peek" effect when hovering over tabs looks more refined with smoothly rounded corners and a clear display of page titles.

• A more visible menu button
-The Opera menu button for Windows, Linux and FreeBSD users is now clearly labeled so that it is easier to find and use.

Enhanced Mac user interface

In addition to the visual tweaks you have seen already, such as the Speed Dial facelift, version 10.60 contains further UI enhancements. You will notice that the O menu button now says "Menu" for easy discovery, and instead of hard to read thumbnails for internal tabs, they've been replaced with icons. The tab hover previews have also received a facelift.

Along with a unified toolbar, new Opera now uses the Cocoa and Core Text frameworks for improved performance and a native Mac OS look and feel, and following the major rewrite of the Opera Framework for 10.50, which replaced Carbon with Cocoa, the developers have gone back and removed as much Carbon code as possible. The few things that are left are loaded dynamically, which should improve performance.

Also for Mac users, please note that Java only works if you have installed the very latest Java update on Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6. There is no Java support on Mac OS 10.4.

Multi-Touch trackpad gestures

On MacBooks with the Multi-Touch trackpad, you can pinch to zoom in and out, swipe two fingers to scroll, and swipe three fingers left and right to navigate backward and forward in browser history.

Growl notification support

Growl users can now get all of Opera's notifications from downloads, Opera Unite, Opera Mail and more.
