There were two major announcements in the Apple 'Book orbit last week. On Monday, Apple announced that the new Intel-powered MacBook Pro has received its first speed bump even before it shipped, and that the first examples are moving out the door at about the same time Apple promised at the Macworld Expo introduction last month.
However, buying a MacBook Pro isn't the only way to get a 2 GHz Apple portable. Last Wednesday, Daystar/XLR8 announced that they are shipping the first-ever upgrades for 15 inch and 17-inch aluminum G4 PowerBooks with Freescale 2.0 GHz 7447a/b chips for 1.5 GHz models and 1.92 GHz G4 chips for 1 GHz through 1.33 GHz models. (Except for the 1 GHz 17" PowerBook On the PowerBook which uses the 482 pin 745x series Freescale chip, which would limit a potential upgrade to using an expensive 7457 chip which maxes out at 1.35 GHz according to Daystar's Gary Dailey).
