GUBA , a pioneer in Internet-based multimedia search technology, announced its enhanced service for searching, downloading, and viewing terabytes of rich media content from 'the dark web'. The dark web refers to those parts of the Internet that are not indexed or searchable by the major search engines, such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft.
GUBA is an automated Internet service that makes it easy to search for and view content posted to Usenet. Usenet is a global distributed bulletin board system that's been in existence for over 20 years.
GUBA enables immediate access to terabytes of new content from Usenet -- the world's largest electronic bulletin board and the predecessor network to the World Wide Web. Since 1979, Usenet has been one of the most active parts of the online community, with millions of users and terabytes of new, unique content, updated on a moment-by-moment basis. Until now, Usenet has been burdensome to navigate because Usenet providers did not offer robust user interfaces that filter relevant content; users could not efficiently browse multimedia content, preview content before download, or easily search, download, or view content posted in different file formats. With GUBA, finding compelling video and image content is as simple as entering a search term and clicking on a result.
While Google indexes only text groups on Usenet and other Usenet providers, such as ISPs, provide only links to content, GUBA uses proprietary backend technology developed over eight years, to deliver multimedia-optimized search for over 300,000 newly indexed images and videos per day -- the equivalent of three files per second.
GUBA features include:
Universal Playback through on-the-fly transcoding of virtually every video format into Macromedia Flash enabling users to instantly watch video within their browser, without additional codecs or video players
Previews of all video files prior to download using rolling thumbnails or frame extraction
Detailed metadata on all content
Copyright-Optimized Service: GUBA's filtering automatically blocks files protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM). GUBA's filters will block images even if those images have been reposted in reformatted, cropped or otherwise partially modified form. Once an image has been removed, GUBA blocks that file from ever reappearing on GUBA using proprietary technologies, including machine learning, algorithmic filters, wavelet-band image matching, and hash functionality. GUBA is Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) compliant.
"GUBA has built a strong and profitable business over the last 7 years by providing our subscribers the best in rich media search in the industry -- our new, enhanced capabilities will further extend our lead in image and video search and we look forward to providing access to even more content and services in the coming months," said Thomas McInerney, CEO of GUBA. "Offering an ad-free service, with all of our benefits and capabilities for only $14.95 per month has helped propel GUBA to rank among the top 1,600 websites in the world, according to Alexa. We expect to continue our rapid climb with these new capabilities."
