Net Applications Posts OS and Browser Market Share Metrics For May 2009

Net Applications' Operating System Market Share for May, 2008 shows Windows (all versions) still with more than nine-tenths of the OS market, but slipping a bit since last month from 91.99% to 91.13%, but the big news is that the Mac OS has gained substantially growth-wise over the past month from April's 7.01% (plus another 0.14% for the iPhone for a total share of 7.15%) to 7.83% plus 0.16% for the iPhone for a total of 7.88%. Linux trails in distant third place at 0.68%, up 0.01% from April.

The iPhone in its own right is the fourth-place operating system overall.

Net Applications' Browser Market Share stats. for April, 2008 show the share of all users using any combination of operating systems.
Microsoft Internet Explorer still dominates, but is down again from it's 76.02% share in April to 73.75% - a significant drop in one month, while Firefox has bounced back to 18.41% from 16.96% in April, while Safari alsocontinues to gain ground, now at 6.25% - up from 5.51% in April. No other browser on any platform breaks even a one percent share, with Opera in a distant fourth place at 0.71%.
