Knoppix on the Intel-Based Macintosh
osnews.com's Thom Holwerda and Jaime Ieong report:
"We reported a few days ago that we had
Linux booting on the Intel-based Macintosh. We have been looking at
Linux on this hardware some more, and we are glad to report that we now
have a full-fledged Knoppix distribution working, complete with the X
Window system. We are releasing the first pictures of Knoppix 4.0
running on a 17-inch iMac Core Duo..."

Battery Breakthrough Could Finally Make Electric Cars
Practical.
technologyreview.com's Kevin Bullis reports:
A new high-capacity battery material
could lead to super-efficient hybrid cars and electric vehicles, helping
to slash U.S. gas consumption.
Researchers have long known that a material based on lithium, nickel,
and manganese could be used to make lithium-ion batteries that store
large amounts of energy. The problem is that batteries based on this
material could be charged and discharged only slowly, otherwise the
amount of energy they could store would drop dramatically.
Now researchers at MIT and the State University of New York in Stony
Brook have shown a way around the problem. The breakthrough came last
summer, when Kisuk Kang, a materials science graduate student at MIT,
created a computer model that showed that when\0xC2\0xA0under conditions
of high power, disorder in the lithium-nickel-manganese material caused
it to compress and trap the lithium ions that allow electricity to flow.
The researchers then synthesized a version of this material without this
disorder, freeing the ions to move quickly.

eWeek: New Safari Flaw, Worms Turn Spotlight on Apple
Security
"A serious new vulnerability in Apple
Computer Inc.'s Safari Web browser and new worms that target Apple's OS
X operating system have raised awareness of the growing number of
threats to computers that do not run the Windows operating system.
Security and anti-virus companies issued advisories Feb. 21 about a
dangerous new hole in the Safari browser that could enable attackers to
install malicious code on Apple OS X systems without any user
interaction."

eWeek: Virtualization Edges Towards PCs
"Virtualization is becoming commonplaceRead more at:
in the data center as companies seek to wring more out of their servers.
But its broad use on the desktop is a year or two away at best, experts
say.
Chip makers Intel and Advanced Micro Devices have begun paving the way
to client-side virtualization-the technology can partition a computer to
run multiple different types of software simultaneously-by building
their respective virtualization technologies into desktop and notebook
processors."

eWeek: Google Denies Acting Illegally in China
"Internet giant Google, which has agreed to block politically sensitive
items on its new China site, rejected Chinese newspaper reports on
Tuesday that the new platform does not have the correct license.
The Beijing News reported on Tuesday that Google.cn, the recently
launched service that accommodates China's censorship demands, has not
