Apple Comes Through After Bad iBook Order Timing
Low End Mac's Dirk Pilat had the frustrating experience of having Apple release the new G4 iBooks just two days after he placed an order for a 12" iBook with a Combo drive, 640 MB RAM, an AirPort card, and a 40 GB hard disk -- G3 of course.
However, Apple came through. Dirk writes:
"...a little email from Apple arrived on my cellphone, telling me that they would scrap my G3 order and instead send me a 14" G4 with bells and whistles. Just like that. And it costs the same. Unbelievable!"
Cool.

Apple: the Microsoft of music stores – Steve Jobs
Macworld UK has an interesting piece on Steve Jobs discussing Apple's iTunes Music Store venture.
"Apple has become "the Microsoft of music stores" Jobs is quoted commenting on SoundScan's report that that iTunes Music Store took 80 per cent of the market for legally downloaded music last week.

Jobs Says Panther Could Run On Intel, But He's Happy With IBM
CNET News.com's Ina Fried reports:
"The latest version of the Mac OS X operating system could easily run on Intel chips, but Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs said on Wednesday that the company has little interest in changing processors.
"'It's perfectly technically feasible to port Panther to any processor,' Jobs said at a meeting with financial analysts. But Jobs said the company is happy with IBM's PowerPC family of chips and feels the performance is 'quite competitive.'"
However, the fact that Jobs would even explicitly address this issue at a press conference begs the question of whether Apple is testing the waters for how a switch to Intel might fly.

Apple Wooing Government, Business Customers
Also from CNET's Ina Fried:
"Apple sales chief Tim Cook told financial analysts that the company last month launched a direct effort that's aimed at the creative market and government entities, with 70 Apple employees working in either field sales or telephone sales.
"Cook said the company has also established employee purchase programs at about 100 companies in recent weeks, an effort Cook said will build advocates for bringing the Mac into the workplace...
"To boost small business sales, the company plans to make every Wednesday 'business day' and is also trying to cut service turnaround time for business customers and offer them the ability to make service appointments with the 'genius' of their choice."

The New York Post's Tim Arango reports:
"Less than a month after Pepsi announced a blockbuster deal to give away 100 million downloads from Apple's iTunes music service to its customers, McDonald's is close to a announcing a much bigger deal, The Post has learned.
"In a dramatic move that gives a thumbs up to the music industry's efforts at creating legal alternatives to file sharing, McDonald's plans to give away up to 1 billion songs in a marketing campaign, according to sources familiar with the matter.
"Both Pepsi and McDonald's are paying Apple's retail price of 99 cents per song, sources say. And McDonald's has arranged to buy up to a billion songs to meet customer demand...."

Did QPS Anticipate The OS X FireWire Bug Two Years Ago?
This two-year-old note in a FAQ on on QPS's support page reads:
"We do not yet support these drives on OS X because there are still some communication issues with the operating system. However, many of our customers are using the drive without problems on OS 10.1.3. If you are going to use the drive on 10.1.3, then format the drive using the disc utility in OS X. You would find this by double clicking on the hard drive icon, double clicking on the OS X system folder, double clicking on the utilities folder. The disc utility is in this folder. Go to the partition tab to setup the drive. If you were also going to use the drive on OS 9 you would select the option to install OS 9 disc drivers."
