Revolabs USB Wireless Microphone With GarageBand?

iMac as phone
From Kevin
It looks like you review a lot of Mac hardware and software, so I'm wondering if you can help.
I have a headset with microphone that I use with the iListen speech recognition software. I would like to be able to use the same headset for making phone calls over my landline. My initial thought was to use my iMac as a phone, but after doing some research I'm not seeing any solution, unless I use a VOIP product like Skype, which I don't want to do.
I'm running an intel iMac on OS X 10.4.11. I can use the mac as an answering machine with phonevalet, I can use it to dial a phone with John's Phone Tool, why the heck can't I talk over a landline via my computer?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kevin
Hi Kevin;
As one who has essentially zero experience with computer telephony beyond once being a fairly heavy user of FAX software, I can't speak with much authority on this topic, but my impression is that you need VOIP software and the Internet to make the concept work.
My daughter uses Skype, and she's very accomplished at hacking both software and hardware, so I'm pretty confident she would have found a way around it if it were practical to bypass the VOIP intermediary.
The mic you use with iListen should be fine for VOIP.

Revolabs USB Wireless Microphone With GarageBand?
From Jess
Hello,
I was reading your review for this product. Do you know if the wireless USB microphone could be used with a program like GarageBand on the Mac (or Audacity/Audition/Pro Tools on the PC)? I’m not really familiar with iListen… and I didn’t know if this mic was solely for that application.

Regards,
Jess
Hi Jess;
The Revolabs mic is a general-purpose USB microphone, and while I haven't used it with GarageBand, I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine.
The mic also works with both Macs and Windows machines.

Editing Passwords From Web Sites In Opera's Wand
From Montys
Charles,
I'm a daily reader of your site. I adopted Opera on your suggestion and like it, but now feel locked into it, not knowing how to read my Wand passwords. Do you know how to access them?
Hi Montys;
Thank you for reading.
As you know, when you enter a username and password into a webpage, Opera's Wand will ask you if you want to save it. The next time you want to log in to this page, press the Wand button in the Address bar or using a keyboard shortcut in the password form to make the Wand fill in the username and password and log you in automatically. You can also disable the Wand in Opera > Preferences > Wand by unchecking "Let the Wand remember passwords".
As for editing passwrods, to the best of my knowledge there is no way to do this directly, I expect as a security measure that's deliberate. If you've forgotten or want to change a password, the workaround would be to go into the Wand Manager in the Preferences (press the Passwords button on the Wand panel), delete the site you want to edit, and then reconfigure Wand to use with that site's password in the usual manner.

WeatherBug Weather Monitor Doesn't Support Firefox 3 beta
From DJ
Only one problem, it doesn't work with Firefox 3.0 Beta
Hi;
Unfortunately not. I mentioned that in the article. I would expect that a Firefox 3 compatible version will be forthcoming after the final version is released.
