Rival iPhone Unlock Teams Hint At 1.1.2 Success
The Register's Tony Smith reports:
Hackers have worked out how to unlock the latest iPhone firmware, 1.1.2, to allow handsets running it to operate on any GSM network. Yet confusion reigns - one popular unlocking app may have been updated 'unofficially'.
Firmware 1.1.2 was released this past Friday, just ahead of the UK and German iPhone launches. New European models being sold for use on the O2 UK and T-Mobile Germany networks come with 1.1.2 pre-installed.

O2 says iPhone 'Fastest-selling' Device Ever
The Times Online's Elizabeth Judge reports:
O2 sought to dismiss reports that the Apple iPhone is selling at a slower than expected pace claiming the device was its "fastest-selling" ever.

Tumbleweeds outnumber punters, as iPhone's First Night flops
The Register's Andrew Orlowski reports:
Journalists and PR minders outnumbered buyers on Friday night as interest in Apple's iPhone miserably failed to live up to the pre-launch hype in the UK.
The iPhone went on sale at stores operated by retail titan Carphone Warehouse, exclusive operator O2, and Apple's own retail chain. The days preceding the launch had been filled with pages of coverage from posh papers and broadsheets alike. O2 announced it was employing 1,400 extra staff to cope with the short-term demand. Even Carphone's PR staff were dispatched to far corners of the land, to provide expert advice to the masses clamouring for iPhones.

Avaya Links iPhone To Enterprise Communications With One-X Mobile
InformationWeek's Elena Malykhina reports:
IP telephony provider Avaya on Monday rolled out a version of one-X Mobile -- software that transforms a mobile device into an office desk phone -- for Apple's iPhone, in addition to software for BlackBerrys, Treos, and Java and WAP-based feature phones.
One-X Mobile is Avaya's client software that lets businesses access features on their mobile devices, such as multi-party conference calling, call transfer, and abbreviated dialing. The software unites enterprise and mobile networks, and enables unified communications - an emerging technology that links business processes with presence information, e-mail, voice mail, instant messaging, and videoconferencing to facilitate efficient communications.
The software is compatible with unified communications technologies offered by both Avaya and Cisco. It supports Avaya Communication Manager and Modular Messaging, as well as Cisco CallManager and Unity messaging, which is especially beneficial to businesses that use mobile devices in mixed environments, according to Avaya.

Apple promises new iPhone features
Macworld UK's Jonny Evans reports:
New features will be introduced to the iPhone in future software updates, Apple has promised as hackers break the company's latest anti-unlocking firmare update.
Apple has promised that: "All the complaints and feature requests we've had can be fixed and added by software upgrades," a company spokesman told Pocket-Lint.
The biggest iPhone criticism - lack of support for 3G - isn't upgradeable by a software patch, with Apple's network partners suggesting a 3G version of iPhone won't ship until late 2008.
