AT&T Launches International Service Plan For iPhone

AT&T on Friday launched an international plan for the iPhone, offering users who travel overseas frequently some relief from expensive roaming charges that have led to at least one lawsuit against iPhone maker Apple.

The plan gives iPhone users 50 Mbytes of data per month to browse the Web, check e-mail, and access other information in 29 countries, including Canada, China, Mexico, and areas throughout Europe and Asia. The new Data Global Plan is available for $60 a month, which is in addition to the domestic voice and data plan iPhone users buy initially to activate the phone. AT&T is the exclusive service provider for the iPhone.

A week before the scheduled Nov. 9 release of Apple's (AAPL) iPhone in the U.K., the Daily Telegraph has published a long interview with Matthew Key, the O2 UK chief executive who negotiated the deal with Steve Jobs. The story offers an interesting perspective on the iPhone, Apple, and its CEO as seen through the eyes of a English businessman.

According to Key, it started with an early morning call on a wet Saturday morning from his boss, Peter Erskine.

Google To Unveil Mobile Platform; Target: iPhone?

Computerworld's Juan Carlos Perez reports:

Google negotiators this weekend continue to hammer out agreements with wireless carriers, handset makers, software developers and hardware providers, as the company prepares to announce on Monday an ambitious platform for creating mobile applications.

Although Google has declined to comment for months on its rumored move into the mobile space, sources said the company will make an announcement Monday at 11 a.m. EST, and that details of the plan are being finalized this weekend.
