RedleX today released Mellel 2.0, a major update to the leading word processor for Mac OS X. Mellel 2.0 offers over 30 new features and improvements, introducing for the first time page layout application capabilities in a word processor. Mellel 2.0 also includes several features enhancing ease of use and writing and managing long documents. The update is free to all registered users of Mellel. A free trial version is also available.

Prominent among the new features introduced with Mellel 2.0 are support for multiple columns, superb support for hyphenation, widows and orphans control, keep with next, and an enhanced support for RTF import and export. The new options further enhance Mellel's position as the leading word processor for writing long and complex manuscripts and multi-lingual documents.

"Mellel 2.0 is a huge step forward for us," said Eyal Redler, CTO at RedleX. "Our mission with Mellel was always to provide the ideal word processor for scholars and writers. Now, with the current version, we're making a significant move to also fill the void left when FrameMaker for the Mac was abandoned by Adobe," he adds. The unique thing about the new features, he claims, is not the features, but the level of sophistication and control Mellel 2.0 offers with them. "Those are things you could only find in a page layout application until now," Redler added.

Mellel 2.0 also adds several new features and enhancements tailored to the requirements and needs of writers and scholars. "When you run forward, it's easy to forget that the main task of a word processor is to cater to its user's needs," claimed Guy Hivroni, co-founder and chief GUI designer for Mellel. "We pay special care to never forget that: new features such as background colour for documents, dashed borders and lines and, first and foremost, a vastly improved RTF export and import support are tribute to that."

Mellel 2.0 is available for download now. The price for a single user license is US$49, Educational license is US$34.99, 5 Pack license (5 licenses) are US$69. A box version of Mellel is expected soon for an estimated price of US$69.
