Lapvantage Ergonomic Laptop Stand Adds Grey Model To Compliment Metal PowerBooks

1313 The Lapvantage laptop is designed to meet the unique needs of portable users, and now comes in a grey model that harmonizes perfectly with the aluminum or titanium PowerBook models. Lapvantage allows you to tuck an external keyboard up to 3" under the platform. This keeps you close enough to your laptop's screen for comfortable viewing while preventing back and neck strain.

Design-wise, the Dome is an obvious tribute to the hemispherical CPU enclosure of the flat-panel iMac, and the Dome, in white especially, leaves no doubt as to its inspiration. However, from a functional perspective, the Dome shape makes more objective functional sense as a laptop stand than it does as a computer case.

The Lapvantage stand swivels 360 degrees on its circular base, something an iMac doesn’t do. This is very convenient, as you can easily spin the laptop around to reach ports and bays on the sides and back of the computer.

The faster laptop computers become, the more likely they are to overheat. Lapvantage comes with gumdrop feet that users attach to the top of the platform. This keeps cool air circulating underneath the laptop. Also included are cord clips for wrapping up excess cords.

Using an external keyboard and mouse can help extend the life of your laptop. Lapvantage keeps your laptop protected from accidental spills, and reduces wear and tear on your laptop's built-in keyboard.

External input devices also allow you to work with more ergonomically correct posture. The U.S. Center for Disease Control recommends against using laptops as primary computers unless they are used in a way consistent with neutral posture: "The monitor should be placed so the top of the screen is at or just below eye level when seated in an upright position."

If you position the laptop high enough to have a comfortable and ergonomically healthy viewing angle to the screen, your wrists are going to be cranked down at an unhealthy tangle, causing stress on soft connective tissues and the troublesome carpal tunnel where the nerves pass through to your hands.
Conversely, if you locate the machine low enough that your wrists stay flat and relaxed, the screen will be lowered to a point where you have to crane your neck downward in order to see it. I have watched the posture of several people I know deteriorate over time after they switched to laptop computers. Round shoulders, collar-gap at the back of the neck, hollowing chests. Lapvantage can help make your laptop compliant with CDC's ergonomics guidelines at a fraction of the cost of expensive docking stations and external monitors.

The Lapvantage stand is height adjustable. The laptop platform, made from clear polished acrylic, measures 13.5 (width) x 11.25 (depth) x .25 (thickness), is attached to a 4/5th size colored (grey, white, or black) sub-platform, with both components through-riveted to yet another, 1/3 size aluminum base platform, which is screwed securely to a beefy, anodized aluminum angled support our which intersects with and retracts into the domed base at a 45 degree angle. The support arm is slotted on its lower limb, so that it can be raised and lowered, providing a range of platform-adjustment from 4 3/4 inches to 6 1/2 inches. The arm is secured at these levels or anywhere in between with a comfortably -sized to lock knob at the back of the Dome base, making height adjustment quick and convenient.
