Kitchen TV, Part 2 - New on MacOpinion

(In Part 1, Marc wrote about his need for a TV in the kitchen, and how he decided to get a Slingbox to wirelessly transmit his Tivo video signal to his old PowerBook G4 set up in the kitchen. Today he writes about installing and using the Slingbox.)

Installing and Setup

Installing and setting up my Slingbox was easy. It's a small shiny black box (not bad-looking at all), though it does have the ubiquitous ugly power brick that takes up two slots on your power strip. Sling conveniently included an Ethernet cable so I just plugged that into the 8-port switch I have in my living room. Also included is a standard yellow-red-white RCA-style AV cable, which I hooked up to my Tivo's AV-out ports and to the Slingbox's AV-in. From the Slingbox's AV-out I went to my TV.

The only remainining connection was the IR control wire. This goes from the Slingbox to the front of my Tivo, where it passes on infrared (IR) remote control signals from Slingbox to the Tivo, allowing me to completely control the Tivo remotely.
