Interview with filmmaker Kerry Conran

821 If you've never heard of Kerry Conran, don't be surprised. The writer-director of the upcoming film Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow has spent a lot of time at his computer, creating his ultra-stylized world of 50s fighter planes battling giant robots. And he uses a Mac.

The New York Times (free registration required) has an extensive article/interview with Conran, where he delves into process of creating an all-digital world, and his love of working with computers. He even started out doing animation on a ancient Mac:

From one of his jobs he had scored a Macintosh IIci, and its hard drive became his sound stage. By today's standards, it was mind-numbingly slow. Every limb of every giant robot had to be rendered separately in advance and reassembled later. Each leg took 12 hours. Each robot had two legs. There were 20 robots.

Fun stuff.

Bill's been using Macs since the late 80s. When he's not making smartass remarks to amuse Kirk Hiner, he enjoys fighting for the user.
