Hands on with MacBook Air - New on MacOpinion

1350 In his latest Less Tangible on Macopinion, Marc Zeedar says:

First let me say that I agree with what others have said in that the Air is a computer you need to see and touch in person -- photos and video just cannot convey the way it feels. It truly is an elegant machine. I can now appreciate the technolust for this Mac. It is so thin it feels like nothing. It reminded me of a clipboard!

However, I would emphasize, that the Air is totally compromised by the addition of any peripherals. Even the power cable is annoyance. (Apple, please hurry up and invent wireless power. Thank you.) For my money, the Air is only useful when you can exploit its thinness. If it's on a desk connected to anything, it has lost its purpose and you might as well get a MacBook or MacBook Pro.

Thus my conclusion is that the Air really is only appropriate for three markets: the super-traveler, who lives in airports and hotels; the design chic, who has only basic computer needs but wants an elegant piece of artwork; and the person who can afford an Air as a secondary, strictly-portable computer. Outside of those areas, either the Air or the person compromise too much and the fit would be an unhappy one.
