A lot of thrills and great fun, due in no small part due to the repartee between the two leads. And now you can download this film for free from the Internet Archive.

Yep. According to the Archive, Charade (or at least this copy of it) is in the public domain "due to the failure to put the then required copyright notice in the released print." Oops. Now, I certainly trust the Internet Archive to do their homework on this matter, after all, they pretty much exist to release things into the public domain, but there have been at least one instance (Roger Corman's Little Shop of Horrors) where they made something available that wasn't in the public domain. (the Archive removed the download when notified of the mistake). It'll be interesting to see if the company that own(ed?) the film tries to enforce or reaccquire the copyright in the manner that was done with It's a Wonderful Life.

The film is available in several sizes (and as Quicktime streams, which can also be downloaded). The Archive is retaining no rights on the download, which means you're free to do with it whatever you like.
Bill's been using Macs since the late 80s. When he's not making smartass remarks to amuse Kirk Hiner, he enjoys fighting for the user.
