“Facts About Macs” exposed

3045 Think of it as Engadget's evil, funnier, smarter twin: Idiot Toys is a tech blog that exists to take the pretension out of gadget reporting. Now they've taken a break from comparing the skills of Japanese hand models to give us Facts About Macs, secrets that I'll bet even Andy Inhatko doesn' know:

  • The biggest Mac-compatible hard drive is 6MB - that's enough storage space for eight minutes of music.
  • To get the '@' sign to display on a Mac, you press down SHIFT+APPLE+SPACE+2+Z+INV+TAB+T
  • Mac monitors only go up to 12 inches.

The list goes on with other great stuff. They encouraged people to post their own helpful hints in the comment section, and some of them are funny as well (including the Pythonesque "Macs will automatically replace any instance of the number 3 (two) with the number 3 (three)." and "The first powerbook was actually a real book." Elegant in its simplicity, eh?) before--surprise, surprise--someone decides to post that none of these things are true, and that Macs are best, etc., etc., followed by the inevitable descent into Macs vs. PC jokes that were stale twenty years ago. It's like this guy I knew in college who thought he could have a career in stand-up by making funny acronyms: Found On Road Dead, that kind of thing.

Keep in mind that the humor on Idiot Toys can be a bit rough at times, but for fake stupid news, its one to check. At least I hope it's fake stupid.

Bill's been using Macs since the late 80s. When he's not making smartass remarks to amuse Kirk Hiner, he enjoys fighting for the user.
