DeskBrowse 1.0b1 Web Browser - Shareware Beat

741 DeskBrowse is the new innovative web-browser from SGS Software. It utilizes the very latest in web technologies and presents the information you want quickly and in a clutter-less and handy environment.

Have you ever been working on a project, and need to get info from the web quickly? Like an image from Google or a definition from Dictionary.com, but don't want to open bulky apps like Safari or Firefox, especially on slower machines. DeskBrowse enables you to have the internet at your fingertips, at the touch of a button. It places a lightweight web browser with very little CPU requirements at your fingertips. Taking the idea from Apple's Window Drawers (i.e. Mail's mailbox drawer in Panther), the team had inspiration to make a small panel that slides from the side of the screen. DeskBrowse has two modes, a SlideBrowser mode, mentioned already, and a Websposé mode, which places the user in a 'kiosk-mode' web environment, ideal for allowing kids to browse the web safely without any harm coming to your system.

Another innovative feature of DeskBrowse is the BezelWindow design, inspired by the 'Dashboard' windows in iPhoto and various other Apple Pro apps. These windows are perfect for History, Downloads and Bookmarks, because they take up such little space, and are semi-transparent, so you can see what is going on behind. These bezels are activated using the Action Menu, which pops up when you click the little gear beside the Back / Forward / Stop / Reload / etc. buttons. This is yet another example of where DeskBrowse innovates with new things, rather than follow the traditional way that browsers look, which has been nearly the same since the advent of the internet, many years ago.

Traditional browsers were based around non-multitasking. They were used in the situation now = browsing time. Just like Apple realized that change was needed to the old metaphor of placing things in folders, and that we needed a new way to find and organize things (Spotlight), we realized that the world was ready for a new browsing experience.

Multi-tasking is our way of being. Every day, there are thousands of computer users who are working on a project like a book-report in Pages, or a presentation in Keynote, and they need to get some information from the internet quickly. Usually, they would open a browser like Safari or Firefox, which are based around the same metaphors of 'now = browsing time', and are therefore bulky and take up lots of space on your screen. DeskBrowse is designed to be the opposite. We developed DeskBrowse with one thing in mind: a way to get information from the web quickly and easily in a nice user interface with the least hassle involved for the end user.

System requirements
DeskBrowse was designed to be lightweight, and the requirements are minimal. You will need an Apple Macintosh computer capable of running Mac OS X 10.3 Panther or later (Jaguar has not been tested but may work).

$10.00 Demoware - will quit after 30 minutes each time you launch it until license fee paid
