CopyWrite 2.292 Project Management Tool For Writers Now Supports Leopard

1452 CopyWrite is a project manager for writers of all kinds. Rather than focus on formatting and layout, CopyWrite stands apart in its project-oriented approach. Word processors and page layout tools are good at what they do - formatting and layout - but they offer no help at all to a writer during the creative process. In fact, the 'gee-whiz' features crammed into these tools do more to hinder writers, getting in the way of their work flow. Put simply, these tools constipate writers; CopyWrite is like a tasty bran muffin ... with extra bran.

CopyWrite's unique interface keeps the information you want front-and-center, and can hide the rest. Use the project browser to browse, organize, and manage the documents in your project. Its search and filtering controls help you find what you want in an instant. Type in a search string and CopyWrite lists the matching documents, filtering the rest. Click a category using the category filter controls and only documents in that category appear. Combine the two and with a few clicks and key-presses, for instance, and you can find all chapters containing the name "Bob". It's easy and it's instant - just what a writer needs when scrabbling for details on a whim.

Before CopyWrite, you had two choices. Switch between two windows - your chapter and its notes - or place your notes right in your prose. Both approaches are clunky and decidedly un-Mac-like. CopyWrite's Notes Drawer keeps notes for each document where they belong - right beside the document to which they belong. Open your document and open the Notes Drawer and no matter where you are in your document, your notes stay put. It's a simple idea, yes, but a good one!

Things change. When they do, it's important to make sure this change is reflected throughout your project. Names, places, things - they all have to be consistent. If you change it in one place, you must change it everywhere. The Global Replace panel keeps this simple idea simple in practice.

CopyWrite takes the idea of 'change' one step further. Software developers use 'version control' to keep track of code changes for a number of reasons. Now writers can too. Create a document. Write a rough draft. Think of another beginning and create a new version of the document. Decide the first one was better and go back, saving the alternate version ... just in case.

CopyWrite's built-in automatic backup system keeps your project data safe. Whether your dog ate your homework or a worm ate your project, you can breathe easier knowing that CopyWrite backs up your project on-demand or every time you quit. The automatic backup system archives your project into simple ZIP files for easy copying or burning. Your investment of time and creative energy is safe with CopyWrite.

CopyWrite's full-screen editor mode lets you cut out the distractions and get to work. Using the hidable full-screen control panel, you can adjust the text size to comfort and even jump between all the documents in your project. Click your text to start editing again and the control panel goes away, leaving you and your text and nothing else.

CopyWrite was designed with flexibility in mind. Every writer works differently, organizes differently, thinks differently. CopyWrite lets you customize your project to suit your needs. Novelists will use categories for their documents such as "Chapters" and "Characters" while a journalist may use "Sections" and "Interviewees". A technical writer may use "Chapters", but has no need for a category for people of any kind. The point is, each CopyWrite project can be tailored to suit your unique style and the project's needs in seconds.

When you're ready to use a word processor or page layout tool to polish up your project, just use the Export feature. CopyWrite can export to standard Rich Text Format (RTF), which any word processor or layout application (such as Microsoft Word, or Apple Pages, or even TextEdit) can read. CopyWrite will not lock you
