Checking Out Two New UNIEA Sleeve Cases For iPad And iPhone - Applelinks Review

7051 If you're running a PC netbook, a Kindle DX, or planning to get an iPad when they're released next month, UNIEA has a new quick and easy sleeve case that provides convenient and feather-light protection for portable devices up to 10.2" display sizes - the U-Sleaf Reversible Universal Sleeve.

The very reasonably-priced ($19.95) U-Sleaf is, as its full name indicates, reversible, so it's a bit like getting two cases in one, or at least two distinct looks.

image

Our tester came in a smart-looking black and white check pattern that can be turned inside-out (so to speak) to convert to a solid red motif.

image

I personally prefer the checked look, but my wife likes the red better, so if this case gets shared within a family, it conveniently caters to potentially different aesthetic tastes or just a bit of variety in your life.

There is also another color choice combo available.

The U-Sleaf is made from neoprene - "wetsuit" type foam-like fabric, so it provides light to medium duty padding and protection without much weight at all -- a barely-there 2.8oz.

image

Neoprene is also soft and kind to your computer's finish. Slipping the iPad or netbook in and out is slick and quick, but the characteristic elasticity of the neoprene curve-shaped "fastener-less" flap closure is nevertheless quite secure, with no worries about the device accidentally falling out.

Being a very slim sleeve case, the U-Sleaf is also ideal for protecting your machine from surface abrasion when carried inside a larger computer case or backpack with other stuff.

Vital statistics:

SIZE
W 280 x H 31 x D 195(mm)

WEIGHT
2.8oz (80 gram)

I really couldn't find much of anything not to like about the U-Sleaf. It's well-made out of what seem to be first-rate materials, inexpensive, and should perform the duty it's intended for admirably.

U-Pouch for iPhone 3GS/3G

Also new from UNIEA is the U-Pouch suede sleeve case for for iPhone 3GS and 3G. Like the U-Sleaf, it offers light duty but very stylish protection for, as well and easy access to your cherished device when you're on the move.

image

Also like the U-Sleaf, the U-Pouch is slim and in profile, notwithstanding its rich, suede construction.

One of the key elements of a good smartphone case design is whether it gives you access to the ports you use on a regular basis, without having to remove the device from the case.

image

The U-Pouch is designed to give you convenient access to ports at both the top and bottom of the unit for listening to music, docking with your computer for recharging, and so forth while in situ, but it's also very easy to slip the phone out when you need to.

The U-Pouch is available in five different color stripe themes alternating with black. Our tester was a very arresting brilliant yellow, that would be my personal favorite.

image

I couldn't identify much to complain about with the U-Pouch either, although the price, also $19.95, seems perhaps a bit steep for such a small and simple product, although I suppose suede is more expensive than neoprene.
