Axiotron Quickscript Handwriting Recognition Application With Snow Leopard Support Released

3378 Modbook manufacturer Axiotron today released the second public beta version of its Quickscript handwriting recognition application, offering improvements such as native support for Mac OS X version 10.6.x (Snow Leopard), improved Chinese character recognition and persistent writing pad settings.

Quickscript is now available to all Mac users for free download at http://www.axiotron.com/quickscript as a time-limited public beta. The application is compatible with computers running Mac OS X version 10.5.x (Leopard) and now Mac OS X version 10.6.x (Snow Leopard).

Incorporating state-of-the-art technology developed by Vision Objects, Quickscript provides highly accurate recognition of cursive handwriting, hand-printed text and isolated characters in 26 languages. Its many convenient features include a pop-up text-entry pane, configurable interface, basic gesture support, personal dictionary and handwriting recognition training. Quickscript enables users to write in Microsoft Word, Excel, Pages, TextEdit and other programs that accept text input.

One of the most innovative aspects of Quickscript is the Kopernikus digital assistant feature. Through its native support of AppleScript, Mac OS X's built-in automation technology, Kopernikus lets users open applications and perform other functions by writing commands in the Quickscript text-entry pane (operating much like the Mac OS X "Speech Recognition" feature). Support for more complex commands is planned for future versions of Kopernikus.

For users of the Modbook, Axiotron's award-winning Mac tablet, Quickscript's powerful recognition engine and intuitive interface turn the Modbook into a productive note-taking device -- a mobile tablet that delivers robust conversion of handwriting into digital characters. Mac users who have pen tablet devices (such as those manufactured by Wacom) with the latest drivers can also benefit from Quickscript.

Quickscript supports 26 languages, including Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Arabic. The application comes pre-installed with an English (U.S.) language package. Users can download and install any of the other language packages. A full list of the available language packages can be found at http://www.axiotron.com/quickscript.

Improvements in the second beta version of Quickscript include:
-- Native support for Mac OS X version 10.6.x (Snow Leopard)
-- Improved recognition for certain Chinese characters
-- Persistent writing pad settings (settings retained on quitting
application)
-- More precise cursor position synchronization for plug-in tablets
-- Other bug fixes
