AppTrap 1.0.2 Trashes All Files Associated with Deleted Applications

2079 Press Release Edited By Applelinks Contributing Editor Charles W. Moore

OK, here's a fairly simple idea: what if applications could be uninstalled as easily as they are installed, in other words, by drag-and-drop. Wait, I can already hear you say: "They can! By using x, y or z!". Well, nice try, sunshine!

Neither x, y or z are truly that simple, right? What can be considered the exact opposite of dragging an application to the Applications folder? Opening another application, dragging the unwanted application to that application, clicking a button, clicking another button, quitting? Nope!

The exact opposite would have to be... dragging the application to the trash. Ah, there you go! This is exactly what AppTrap does. Whenever you drag an application to the trash, a dialog window will pop up, asking if you want to delete the associated system files too. Simple as that.

AppTrap is designed with two things in mind:
• Extreme simplicity
• Being completely seamless

The first point is achieved by not including anything but the main functionality described above. There will never be any spring cleaning or or other snazzy features, not even bells and whistles!

The second point is achieved by integrating AppTrap with Mac OS X. You won't ever see AppTrap except for its dialogue window; yes, that's right, there's no menu extra. Only a background application and a preference pane. Also, the aim is to include as many localizations as possible, so you'll have to help out here!

New in version 1.0.2:
• Fix crash on startup
• Finds a lot more system files
• Detect if the trashed app came from a Sparkle auto-update, and ignore
• Check both user and global library
• Simple version check until Sparkle supports bundles
• Fix a couple of memory leaks (thanks Håkan)
• Fix fatal bug if the bundle identifier or bundle name was not found (thanks Gregard)
• Added localizations: Danish, German, Spanish, Finnish, French, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish and Traditional Chinese
• Lots and lots of small fixes!

Version 1.0.1:
• Search folders recursively
• Remember the expanded state of the dialogue window
• Fix random crash on startup
• Fix a couple of memory leaks (thanks Håkan!)
• AppTrap is now open source, yay!

System requirements:
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
